Docs on the Bay will be closed on Monday May 18 for the observance of Victoria Day. Emergency care is available from Port City Emergency Vet Hospital in Saint John. We will reopen for normal hours on Tuesday the 19th. Please make sure to pick up your food and medication before the weekend!

Docs on the Bay is currently seeking an experienced bookkeeper for 5-10 hours per week with some flexibility for working from home. References required. Position is a maternity leave coverage for 18 months.

As we close out this week we want to celebrate Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week!

The first faces you see walking in to the clinic are these extremely hard working, key staff members who are the main reason the clinic functions as it does!

Receptionists are doing it all:
⚡️Answering the phone

⚡️Scheduling appointments

⚡️Managing orders, inventory and prescription requests

⚡️Keeping appointments organized and flowing into exam rooms

⚡️Keeping the doctors on task (or trying!)

⚡️Updating owners on their pets

We are so fortunate to have the ever skilled, and patient Leanne and Alie keeping us running smoothly day in and day out! Next time you stop in be sure to thank them for all their hard work, because truly- we cannot do it without them!!

‼️ Rabies alert ‼️

The following information was released yesterday. For our clients please be aware if you live in this area. Yes, New Brunswick does have rabies cases. Rabies vaccination is also required by law. If you do not know if your pet is up to date please contact us to find out.

“A presumptive positive case of raccoon rabies has been detected by the New Brunswick Provincial Veterinary Laboratory in the Little Ridge area, near St. Stephen. To protect the community and local wildlife, Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries staff will be distributing vaccine baits around the area of the case on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. This activity is concentrated along Routes 725, 730, and 735 and all nearby side streets.
The Department advises pet owners to keep dogs on leashes for the next two weeks following bait distribution. While the baits are not harmful to pets if consumed, residents should avoid handling them. If contact occurs, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Additionally, please report any abnormal acting wildlife to Telecare 811 This alert will remain in effect until the animal is no longer a threat. Another update will be provided when the MDSS hears from the Department. “

A reminder that Docs on the Bay will be closed on Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6 for Good Friday and Easter Monday. If you experience an emergency during that time frame please contact Port City for further care. If you need to pick up food or medications please plan to stop in before we close on Thursday

With the warmer weather and the melting snow, now is the time to make sure your pets are protected against ticks- before the first bite! Call or stop in to discuss preventative options available and make sure your spring is not starring these hitchhiking foes!

How’s this for a furry Friday?! Meet Wonton, a 10 week old beautiful puppy who paid us a visit earlier this week for his first time. We cannot wait to watch him grow up!

Meet Bella! Bella is a senior cat who has diabetes! Her diligent and loving owners make sure to stay on top of all her needs, but much to her dismay that means frequent trips to see us- and as you can see by her tongue sticking out she isn’t shy to let us know how she feels!

Did you know diabetic cats can have their blood sugar monitored at home using some of the same technology we do as humans? Thanks to this advance we can now gain better understanding of their blood sugars over a period time without the added stress of repeated blood draws and hospital stays! Bella wears her beautiful sweater to cover the glucose monitor to help it stay in place.
