A full circle moment for Nelix ❤️
Meet Lose Your Wranglers, affectionately known as Nelix.
Born on our farm in 2007, Nelix holds a special place in my heart. He was the very first horse I bred, out of the very first mare I purchased with my own money. He went on to enjoy a successful racing career, earning just over $100,000 USD before retiring from the track at age seven.
Nelix has always had a big personality, and finding the right second career for him was important. Rather than rush into a decision, we gave him time until the perfect match came along. That match was Émy and David in Quebec, who welcomed Nelix into their lives and gave him an incredible ten years as a barrel horse and a much-loved partner.
Together, they achieved numerous barrel racing wins in the Portneuf Western Association and recorded the best time of a competition weekend more than once! As well as competed in the Quebec Provincial Championships. Nelix earned several championship titles, including the 2019 season championship in men's barrels and reserve championship in Grand Prix 2021, reserve champion in womens barrels in 2023 as well as reserve champion in grand prix in 2023. But their greatest accomplishment was the partnership and trust they built along the way.
This Thanksgiving weekend, at 19 years old, Nelix returned to the farm where he was born to begin his well-earned retirement. ❤️
Émy Gauthier-Robitaille and David Charbonneau, thank you for loving him, believing in him, and giving him such a wonderful second chapter. We know how much he means to you, and we're forever grateful for the life you shared with him.
Nelix's story is a reminder of something we believe deeply at Broadstock Racing: our horses are never just racehorses. They are individuals we raise, care for, and form lifelong connections with. Their well-being and quality of life matter long after their racing days are over.
Welcome home, Nelix. Your next chapter is all about being a horse, enjoying the pasture, and taking life at your own pace. You've certainly earned it. 🐴❤️
Please enjoy an extensive collection of photos, showcasing Nelix's life from birth, through racing at Ajax Downs, barrel racing in Quebec and back to the place of his birth!
