We are thrilled to be able to provide a space for local artists!

Visual artists: Display at the Arrowsmith Animal Hospital Gallery Walls!

We are proud to launch up to 23 exhibition walls at the Arrowsmith Animal Hospital, both in the waiting areas and in treatment rooms.

These walls are available to artist members who would like to exhibit their work for sale. Works are sold with no commission fees, making it a fantastic opportunity for artists!

There is a $10 administration fee to apply.

All work must be in alignment with either themes:
🎨Pets are Family: Work that depicts the love and joy that pets bring to our lives
🎨Alberni Valley Nature & Wildlife: Work that shows pride in our natural setting

A sad afternoon for us today - one of the geese from the d**e was rushed into the clinic after being attacked by a dog. We did our best to save her, but her injuries were severe and she didn't survive. She had been been sitting on her nest for some time and died defending her eggs from an uncontrolled dog.

As veterinarians, we see preventable tragedies like this all too often. Unsupervised pets are a hazard to wildlife, to other pets and to themselves. As pet owners, we should be mindful that we share our valley with many other species, wild and tame, and their safety is in our hands.

RIP, mother goose.

We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather but with warmer weather comes ...... yes you guessed it TICKS!!!!!

Found a tick on your pet? Don’t panic — but don’t ignore it either! These tiny hitchhikers are more than just gross… they can carry diseases that affect your pet’s health.

🔍 Where to check your dog or cat:
Ticks LOVE to hide, so be thorough! Check:
• Around the ears (and inside the ear flaps)
• Under the collar
• Between the toes 🐾
• Armpits and groin area
• Around the eyes and lips
• Base of the tail

👀 What you’re looking for:
Ticks can be as small as a poppy seed or as big as a pea when full. They often feel like a small bump or skin tag — so if something feels off, take a closer look!

💊 Prevention is key!
The best way to protect your pet is with vet-recommended tick prevention. Not all products are created equal, so chat with your veterinarian about what works best for your pets lifestyle.

Meet Kenzie, one of our exceptional veterinary assistants who wears many hats. She is often found working at the reception desk, assisting in surgeries and appointmens, and helping fundraise for animals in need. Be sure to stop by our clinic to purchase a tasty chocolate bar, locally crafted by Coombs Country Candy, with all proceeds directly supporting animals in need of Veterinary care.
