Wow what a harvest! For one of the most w**d filled gardens I've ever had its also been one of the best gardens yet in terms of yield! I do think thats in part to the wonderful rains we've had this year!

And to think, I almost didn't do a garden this year! I often think thats how we sometimes stop ourselves from making the greatest gains in our lives, we quite trying just before the growth actually shows. We get discouraged because we cant see any progress or the progress isn't as much as we'd like to see.

Im glad I pushed through this year and took the pressure off myself by saying whatever you grow will be good enough even if very little and look! Best garden yet!!

Watching Dan head out to do chores without me this morning it finally hit me why I struggle to let go of the farm stuff as I shift into being home with the kids more. I mean I mostly knew but a better word for it came to mind. I have a fear of missing out. So simple and I knew that but it felt like a missing puzzle peice to me finally naming it and letting it go.

The farm and animals have always been my safe haven, the place I run to when life hurt too much. God met me there more times than I ever realized. But instead of seeing the gift the aniamls gave me I turned them into an idiol. They were my peace, happiness, safety.

Ive seen God show me that over the last couple years and He's gently guided me and reminded me that He is the ultimate one who offers those things.

So though I have to be in the house a little longer this morning, I take comfort that I am able to be here offering my young boy the comfort he needs. And reminding myself it is a blessing I get to be fully here for him and that in FACT I am not stuck here. It does hurt seeing the default ways my brain views motherhood, but I am so very grateful for all these steps to learning to love it and rely on my Father above πŸ₯°

First calf born on the farm in 37 years!! A lil bull calf, though let me tell you he's still quite heavy!!! Miss Maybelle did and amazing job and had him nearly dried off when I found her this morning πŸ₯° We did have to help her let him nurse but I think she has a handle on it now. Such a happy day here on the farm and I'm so glad my little family got to experience this with me. This wouldn't be possible without them β€οΈπŸ’–β€οΈ

Don't let my last post make you think I'm not still out on the farm because I definitely still am!!! It's just not my #1 priority anymore. Anything farm related comes after I've served my family in their needs and unfortunately didnt always do this. Instead I'd push for whatever project I wanted even if we weren't fed or I knew it would pressure me to not be the best mom. I still do push my kids through some discomfort when Im attempting to finish something. They get tired an hungry but its not the same as before. Before I would get angry with them because I selfishly felt like they were inconvenienceing me... I know horrible but its a reality I've had to walk myself out of. I would struggle to quit my work to fulfill their needs. Now I know when its time to stop, but I do still ask my kids to push through in age appropriate increments because it is also important for them to understand mommy isn't always available and has to get some things done.
I believe I have finally found a balance that is working for our family 😊 Instead of always trying to manage everything, now I only help on the farm when I see a need that my husband is unable to meet alone.
So for about a week now I've been attempting to set up a pasture for the cows and horses! And lastnight I finished and let them into it. Now to head to the farm and see if they stayed in πŸ˜…πŸ˜‰

Another year of hoping that next year we will get our rotational pastures built, because watching them muck up this once beautiful pasture is hard!!

The last few years we have underestimated how difficult it would be to build the farm while also running Dan's full time business and myself being at home full time with kids. We've been able to small improvements each year and Dan laid back attitude has kept us all sane ....though at times drove me insane.... cause how can someone be that calm all the time! If you know Dan you'll understand πŸ˜‰

It has been humbling for me to have to step back more and more from the farm and step into the home more. But I see how me doing so balances my family out in a way that farmworker me did not. It's actually been nice to fall into a more feminine role and let my husband lead in the areas that work best fro our family.

The work will get done we just have to adjust our expectations sometimes... which is often the hardest part πŸ˜‰

Kids got to witness their pony being gelded as well as having his wolf teeth removed. Wally asked lots of questions and Elly just confidently watched. We had conversations about it all before it happened so kids were aware of what would happen and we all got to learn a little bit more too. Im proud of my little ones for partaking in this and loved hearing Wally freely ask all his questions. We may have had more of a detailed anatomy lesson then I had expected but it definitely served for some laughs by all πŸ˜† kids and their questions I tell ya you just never know what they will be.
