Canine Haven Rescue 100% non-profit organization in Durham Region. In-home foster based rescue for street dogs and those Reads comment and follow advice at your own risk.

Canine Haven Rescue is a dog rescue located in Ontario, Canada. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based organization. None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival in Canada and each rescue dog lives in a foster home prior to adoption. We specialize in rescuing dogs from abroad and re-homing them locally. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and subject to a health check

prior to adoption. Potential adopters and fosters must first fill out an application form, have their references checked and have a home visit before placement. All donations and proceeds are designated to the care and support of the dogs and their veterinary fees. Some dogs undergo various operations prior to being adopted and these costs are high.

Rhonda is a one-year-old mixed breed originally from Barbados with that classic, charming puppy energy. She approaches life with max enthusiasm - ready to take on an adventure every day! Rhonda is also the definition of a social butterfly - excited and happy to greet any person or dog willing to say hello.

Rhonda is a highly intelligent girl who is incredibly food motivated. Given her young age and puppy energy, training and continuing work with manners will be matched with an eager, responsive pup.

Meet Zeno, a professional sleeper, part‑time snuggler, and full‑time emotional support shadow who has decided that personal space is a myth invented by humans. If you move from the couch to the kitchen, he will follow. If you move from the kitchen to the bedroom, he will follow. If you sneeze, he will check on you like you’ve been shot. Loyalty is his brand.

In the mornings, Zeno greets his foster with the enthusiasm of someone who hasn’t seen them in twelve years. His tail does a happy wag, he gives soft little kisses, and he acts like he acts like he won the lottery just because you woke up!

Zeno starts off shy with new people — especially men — but once he decides you’re trustworthy, he becomes your biggest fan. He’ll stare at you lovingly, nap beside you like a Victorian fainting prince, and follow you around with the dedication of a personal assistant who takes his job way too seriously.

He’s a low‑energy guy who believes strongly in the power of rest. His daily schedule consists of: nap, walk, nap, sniff things outside, nap, stare at you adoringly, nap, and then one final nap to wrap up the day. He enjoys two calm walks and handles downtown Toronto like a champ, though loud noises sometimes make him reconsider all his life choices.

What makes Zeno truly special is how deeply he bonds once he feels safe. He is the kind of dog who will look at you like you hung the moon, the stars, and possibly invented cheese. He just needs a patient adopter who understands that trust takes a little time — but once he warms up, he becomes the sweetest, most loyal, most cuddle‑obsessed companion you could ever hope for.

Sweet Chloe found her forever home nine months ago and has been thriving for her furever family. Lets get an update:

"Has it only been 6 months? Because it feels like Chloe has been part of our family for much longer ❤️  She’s such a loveable girl, always happy to be by her humans and get extra pets and snuggles. She’s a great walking buddy and enjoys all her adventures in the bush with us. we also celebrated her 8th birthday in December! We’ve learned her favourite foods are popcorn and chicken… we don’t feed her them of course but wow when they’re in the house she is right by your feet hoping for a little taste! It’s been an incredibly smooth transition for us and she’s adapted so well. Thanks for bringing her into our lives! "

🐾 Help Tino Get the Dental Care He Needs 🐾

Tino is just 1 year old and weighs 20 lbs. Despite all he has been through, he is still one of the happiest little dogs you could meet.

Our Barbados partners received a call about two small dogs in a remote rural area. One had a deep wound on his side, and the other was too frightened to come close. When we arrived, kind tourists were there keeping them safe.Thankfully, it did not take much to gain Tino’s trust. A small tin of sausages was all it took for him to realize we were safe. Both dogs were taken to the vet for treatment and then brought to safety at the sanctuary. Since then, Tino has shown us nothing but love, resilience, and joy.

Tino now needs dental surgery to remove a damaged tooth and treat painful dental issues. The procedure is expected to cost about $1,300.

As a rescue, unexpected medical costs like this add up quickly, especially during slower adoption periods. We are asking for help with Tino’s veterinary care so he can continue living a happy, pain-free life.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps dogs like Tino get the medical care they need.

Rocky was adopted almost a year ago and has been living life to the fullest with his furever family! If you remember Rocky, he waited over six months to find his forever home and it was definitely worth the wait! Let's get an update from his pawrents on how he has been doing since his adoption:

"SIX MONTHS???? Where has the time gone!? As always, we LOVE him hahaha.  Adopting him was the best thing for us and we are so grateful for him, everyday.  

He definitely has his bully “attitude” and also tests us daily, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t love it lol!  He is so full of personality and he makes us laugh everyday!  In the last few months, he’s really started to show us more and more of his personality and quirks, and he’s beginning to seek out affection which we obviously LOVE."

We are looking for a medical volunteer to join our team!! ✨✨🐾🐾

A medical volunteer within Canine Haven Rescue plays an important role in coordinating and overseeing the health care needs of the dogs in rescue.

Core Responsibilities Include:
• Maintaining and updating medical records and files for each dog
• Ensuring vaccines, deworming, preventatives, and required medical testing are completed and kept current
• Scheduling and coordinating veterinary appointments, surgeries, and follow-up care
•Tracking veterinary invoices and monitoring paid and outstanding balances
• Working closely with the foster support team to address medical concerns and provide guidance to fosters
• Communicating with foster homes regarding treatment plans, medications, and appointments
•Assisting adopters with medical-related questions or post-adoption follow-up when needed
• Monitoring ongoing medical cases and helping ensure dogs receive timely and appropriate care
• Liaising with veterinary clinics, fosters, adopters, and other rescue volunteers to support each dog’s overall wellbeing

The role requires strong organization, communication, attention to detail, and compassion, as medical volunteers help ensure rescue dogs receive proper veterinary care throughout their time in rescue 💙💙✨✨

Welcome to Canada ladies!! These two girls arrived May 12th after flying in from Barbados and are both settling in wonderfully with their respective foster families. We hear that Tayto is already making fast friends with her foster brothers and Elizabeth has been enjoying both the rain and sunshine.

Rhonda approaches life with zero fear and maximum enthusiasm, ready to make every day feel like the best adventure ever and is the definition of a social butterfly. She absolutely loves people, dogs, and pretty much anyone willing to say hello. The ultimate social butterfly.

Let's give a warm welcome to two of our newest arrivals - Zeno and Tyler!! Tyler arrived May 5th and the next day, on May 6th. Both boys have been settling in well with their respective foster families - Zeno already rocking his sweaters as he adjusts to the Canadian climate and we hear Tyler is quite the goofy man.
