🐾 Sometimes, they just need someone to give them a chance.
We absolutely LOVE getting updates like this. ❤️
This is Loki, pictured with his new big sister Ocean (formerly Sage) — who also happens to be a RAMS Adoption Centre alum!
Loki’s journey to his forever home wasn’t necessarily an easy one. While he was with us, he was stressed, nervous and unsure of new people. When potential adopters came to meet him, that anxiety often showed up as barking and keeping his distance.
And unfortunately, that made it harder for people to see the dog underneath all that fear.
But one family decided to give him a chance.
And look at him now. 🥹
Loki has settled beautifully into his new home. He has a big sister to show him the ropes, a family who gave him the time and space he needed, and he’s proving to be the wonderful boy we knew was hiding underneath all that shelter stress.
Stories like Loki’s are also an important reminder that a shelter is not a home.
We do everything we can to make the animals in our care comfortable, safe and loved. But shelters are unfamiliar places filled with strange smells, noises, people and animals. For some dogs, especially nervous or sensitive ones, that environment can be overwhelming.
The dog you meet in a kennel may not be the same dog you see curled up on your couch a few weeks later.
And this is exactly why foster homes are such an incredible resource for shelters. A foster home gives an animal the opportunity to decompress and experience normal home life while they wait for adoption. It also gives us invaluable information about who that animal really is — how they behave in a home, what they enjoy, what makes them nervous, and what kind of family will help them thrive.
For dogs like Loki, that opportunity can make all the difference.
So here’s to the adopters who are willing to look beyond the barking, the nervousness or the less-than-perfect first impression. ❤️
Sometimes the animal who has the hardest time showing you who they are at the shelter turns out to be the one who fits perfectly into your home.
Happy tails, Loki. You found exactly where you belong. 🐾
And Ocean… thank you for being such a good big sister. ❤️
