🐇❤️ The Rabbit Whisperer Strikes Again! ❤️🐇

When our newest rabbit intake, Theodore, arrived at the rescue, there was one resident we knew would be eager to welcome him... Marley, our beloved Patagonian mara!

For reasons we may never fully understand, Marley has a special gift when it comes to rabbits. Time and time again, he forms friendships with new arrivals, helping nervous newcomers feel safe and accepted. Today was Theodore's first introduction to Marley, and it was as if they had known each other forever.

Theodore may be new to the rescue, but thanks to Marley, he's already found a friend.

Patagonian maras aren't rabbits at all—they're actually one of the world's largest rodents—but don't tell Marley that! He seems convinced he's part bunny and has proudly earned the title of our resident "Rabbit Whisperer." 🥰

Watching these two meet reminds us just how powerful friendship can be, even between different species. Welcome to the family, Theodore. We think you're going to fit in just fine. ❤️

🌾💚 A huge thank you to Sparrow Farms for their generous hay donation! 💚🌾

Sparrow Farms has been a long-time supporter of Meet the Keepers, and their continued generosity means more to us than they could ever imagine. The high-quality hay they provide helps feed and care for so many of the animals that call our rescue home. From rabbits, tortoises, maras, chinchillas, to other herbivores in our care, good hay isn't just a treat—it's an essential part of keeping them healthy and thriving.

We are incredibly grateful for businesses that choose to support rescues and make a real difference behind the scenes. 🐰🦙🐹

If you're looking for hay for your own animals, be sure to reach out to Sparrow Farms! They offer multiple varieties to meet the needs of all kinds of creatures, whether you have a beloved pet or a whole barn full of hungry mouths.

Thank you, Sparrow Farms, for standing beside us year after year. Your kindness and support help us continue giving animals the care they deserve. ❤️🐾🌾

💙 A huge THANK YOU to everyone who welcomed us during yesterday's donation route! 💙

We made 19 different stops to collect donations, and we are absolutely blown away by the kindness and generosity of our community.

What you're seeing here is only about one-third of the blankets, towels, comforters, and supplies that were donated! 🐾🦝🦊🐰

These items may seem simple, but they make an enormous difference. Blankets become warm beds for injured wildlife, towels help with daily cleaning and rehabilitation, and comforters provide comfort and security to the many animals in our care.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for thinking of Meet the Keepers and the animals we advocate for every single day. Your support allows us to continue rescuing, rehabilitating, educating, and giving animals a voice.

We truly couldn't do this without you. ❤️

🐷💦 Every spoiled pig needs his own swimming pool... followed by a mud hole. 💦🐷

Yesterday afternoon, our blind pig Kevin Bacon stood quietly nearby, listening as his pool filled up with fresh, cool water. While most of us would watch the water rise, Kevin experiences the world a little differently — taking in the familiar sounds around him and knowing exactly what was coming next.

Being blind has never slowed Kevin down.

He confidently navigates his space, knows where all of his favourite spots are, and has perfected the important things in life: snack time, nap time, swimming time... and, of course, finding the perfect mud hole afterward. 🐽☀️

Kevin is a beautiful reminder that blindness doesn't mean an animal can't live a full, happy, and enriching life. They adapt. They overcome. They thrive.

Now that his pool is ready, Kevin has a busy schedule ahead: a refreshing swim, a luxurious mud bath, and maybe a well-earned nap in the sunshine. After all, every spoiled pig deserves the best. ❤️

Did you know that relocating snapping turtles in Ontario is more complicated than many people realize?

🐢 The Common Snapping Turtle is listed as a species of Special Concern in Ontario. While they may still seem common, their populations are declining due to habitat loss, road mortality, nest predation, and illegal collection. Snapping turtles are incredibly slow to recover from population declines. Females can take nearly 15–20 years to reach maturity, and the loss of even a few adult turtles each year can have devastating effects on local populations.

If you find a snapping turtle crossing the road, the best thing you can do is help it safely cross in the direction it was already heading—if you can do so safely. Never turn it around, as turtles know where they are going and may be travelling to nesting sites or seasonal habitats.

⚠️ Relocating a snapping turtle to a different pond, lake, or wetland can do more harm than good. Moving turtles long distances can:
• Disrupt local populations
• Spread disease between waterways
• Prevent turtles from finding suitable nesting and overwintering sites
• Increase their chances of being killed as they attempt to return to their original home range

These ancient reptiles have survived alongside dinosaurs, but they now face increasing pressures from human activity. The next time you see a snapping turtle, remember that sometimes the greatest act of kindness is simply helping it continue on its journey.

Every turtle matters. ❤️🐢

THANK YOU - FULL
Looking for blankets, towels and sheets!

With the recent influx of wildlife rescues coming into our care, we are running low on some of the everyday essentials that help us keep our animals clean, comfortable, and warm.

We are currently looking for donations of:

🧺 Towels
🛏️ Bed sheets
🧼 Washcloths
🧸 Blankets

New or gently used items are greatly appreciated and will go directly to supporting the many animals currently being rehabilitated at the wildlife centre.

A couple of requests: Please, no pillows and no items containing down feathers. We like to avoid the unavoidable "explosions" and the epic cleanup that follows when an enthusiastic patient decides to redecorate their enclosure. 😅

If you have any of these items tucked away in a closet and no longer need them, please consider donating them to help the wildlife in our care. Every towel and blanket makes a difference.

🚗 Porch pickups are available within our "triangle area" between Hawkesbury, Orléans, and Alexandria, making it easy to donate if you're nearby.

Thank you for continuing to support our mission and helping us give these animals a second chance.

As always, UNITE FOR WILDLIFE! 🦝🦉🦊🦔

The Importance of Wildlife Education 🦜🦨🐇

From macaws like Franky, who remind us of the harsh reality of wildlife being captured and sold through the pet trade, to learning how to safely coexist with native wildlife like our resident skunk Tucker, education has the power to change perspectives.

It means understanding the realities of owning exotic animals through ambassadors like Marley, our Patagonian mara, whose unique needs are often misunderstood. It means recognizing that animals like Papa and Junior, our rabbits, are more than "just rabbits"—they are individuals who have survived the fur trade, meat industry, abandonment, and the pet trade.

At Meet The Keepers, we are more than a rescue.

We are more than wildlife educators.

We are a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Every presentation, every school visit, every social media post, every conversation, and every animal encounter is an opportunity to inspire compassion, challenge misconceptions, and encourage people to make kinder, more informed choices.

If we can change the mind of just one person through a presentation, a post, or a conversation—if one child grows up respecting wildlife, if one family chooses compassion, if one person decides to advocate instead of ignore—then every mile travelled, every late night, and every effort is worth it.

Because education creates understanding.

Understanding creates empathy.

And empathy has the power to change the world.

Thank you for helping us give animals a voice. Together, we can make a difference—one presentation, one post, one person, and one animal at a time.

At Meet The Keepers, we're not just teaching about animals. We're inspiring people to care enough to protect them.

As always, UNITE FOR WILDLIFE. 🐾💚

REUNITED WITH OWNERS!!!
🖤 FOUND RABBIT – ROCKLAND AREA 🖤

This beautiful female Black Rex rabbit was found roaming in the Rockland Walmart area. Domestic rabbits cannot survive on their own in the wild and rely on people for proper care.

Please contact us if this is your lost pet or if you recognize this rabbit. We would love to reunite her with her family if someone is searching for her.

If you intentionally released this rabbit for any reason, we ask that you please reach out to us as well. Any information you can provide about her age, medical history, diet, spay status, veterinary records, or previous health concerns could make a tremendous difference in ensuring she receives the best possible care moving forward.

Please share this post to help us find answers for this sweet girl. ❤️🐇
