When the swimming is just too good.

Did you know that Redbones actually have webbed feet, which helps make them powerful, efficient swimmers? A good Redbone can swim just as confidently as a Labrador, and some will even dive underwater to retrieve or investigate scent. Their athleticism and versatility are seriously underrated. ❤️

Coonhound water races are a real and entertaining thing 😆

I’ve been running Dogtra for 4 years… and somehow managed to snap the antenna clean off one of my collars last year.

A YEAR later and it still tracks perfectly. We haven’t upgraded yet. Didn’t expect a survival test, but apparently this thing is indestructible 💀

Not even mad anymore… just impressed.
Safe to say it’s earned my trust in the woods, and it will always be my recommendation 😆

At Red Vortex Redbones, we don’t just breed dogs, we stand for the preservation of a working breed that is too often misunderstood, overlooked, or watered down.

The Redbone Coonhound is a purpose driven breed with strong natural instinct and a clear job, but in the right environment that same foundation creates a dog that is highly trainable, level headed, and easy to live with. We believe in representing the breed as it truly is, capable in the woods and reliable, enjoyable companions in active, structured homes.

We are committed to raising awareness and sharing real, experience based knowledge on structure, temperament, and function. That means being transparent, educating people on what a well bred, well raised Redbone should look like, act like, and be capable of. Not just in theory, but in real life.

A major part of our mission is advocating for recognition of the Redbone Coonhound within the Canadian Kennel Club. This is about more than titles, it’s about securing the future of the breed in Canada. Recognition encourages accountability, supports responsible breeding, and helps preserve the integrity and purpose of the Redbone for generations to come.

Without structure, there is no longevity.
Without workability, there is no purpose.
Without advocacy, there is no future.

Our program is built on producing dogs that meet the standard where it actually matters:
Health — sound, functional dogs built to last
Structure — correct, efficient movement and physical integrity
Workability — natural instinct, drive, and real world ability

Every dog we produce is bred with intention, preserving not just how the Redbone looks, but how it lives, works, and fits into the right home. We are not here to follow trends or produce for convenience. We are here to preserve a breed with history & purpose and protect what it was meant to be ♥️

I’ve been quiet since the news broke almost three days ago, I’ve been questioning what to say, or how to respond.

A 9-year-old hound was shot during an elite UKC competition, on the grounds, during the event. This dog belonged to a 12-year-old boy.

Anyone who runs hounds understands the risks. We accept a lot when we turn them loose: terrain, weather, wildlife. But being shot or stolen is the fear that never really leaves.

And it’s one that should NOT exist at an organized UKC event.

These events are supposed to provide structure, rules, and a level of safety that we don’t always have outside of them. When something like this happens in that setting, it shakes trust, not just in the event, but in the system meant to protect handlers and their dogs.

Those rules, those grounds, those casts… they’re supposed to be the one place you feel a little safer turning your dog loose.

Right now, it doesn’t feel that way.

A kid lost his dog. A family lost something they loved, and the silence from UKC around it is loud.

We’re waiting for ultrasound confirmation on April 21st, but our fingers are crossed 🤞🏼

This breeding brings together two great bear lines (Timber Chopper x Raisin River), giving us a beautiful balance of grit, intelligence and intense workability while also being stable and affectionate house dogs.

Sire and dam both live with other pets and children, they also actively pursue raccoon, bobcat, fox and coyote. A balanced cross built for real work and real homes.

Despite their amazing off switch and ability to excel in the home, hunting/working/active homes will have first priority, allowing hounds to do what they were bred to do will always be the first and foremost goal.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more info. ♥️
