Abandonment is not an option. It is cruel, heartless and inhumane ๐
Imagine being taken for a drive by the only family you've ever known, only to be left behind on the side of a road. No food, no shelter, no understanding of why the people you trusted most have suddenly disappeared. Sadly, this is exactly what happened to two innocent little dogs.
Last Friday, a vehicle was spotted on Spruce Grove Road in Englehart dropping off two small-breed dogs. One black dog, that has not been seen since Sunday (we can only hope and ๐ that this little one has found safety somewhere) and the second dog, a sweet little girl that we have named Tilly. She has spent SIX LONG DAYS running terrified, exposed to the cold, wet weather and left to fend for herself. What makes this even more heartbreaking is that Tilly never wandered far from the location where she was abandoned. Six days. Six nights. Staying close to the very place where her family left her behind. Was she waiting for them to come back? Did she recognize every passing vehicle, hoping it might be them?
We will never know, but the thought is absolutely heartbreaking. ๐
Despite the efforts of so many kindhearted people, Tilly was simply too frightened to allow anyone near her. We set live traps, and thankfully, last night, we were finally able to bring this precious girl to safety.
โค๏ธ Tonight, Tilly is no longer alone.
She is warm. She has a full belly. She has a safe place to sleep. And most importantly, she is LOVED.
But it should NEVER have come to this.
Animals are living, breathing beings who feel fear, hunger, pain and loneliness. They depend entirely on us for their safety and well-being. They do not understand why they have been abandoned, and they certainly do not deserve to be discarded like something that no longer matters. We understand that circumstances change. Financial struggles happen. Living situations change. Sometimes people find themselves unable to care for their pets. But abandoning an animal is NEVER the answer. There are rescues, shelters and people willing to help. Yes, many organizations are overwhelmed. Yes, there may be waitlists. But please, make the calls, ask for help and be patient. Your animal deserves that much.
Leaving a helpless animal on the side of a road, especially in cold and wet conditions, is not giving them a chance at a better life. It is putting their life in danger.
๐ A very special thank you to the incredible people of Englehart who refused to give up on this little girl. To everyone who kept watch, attempted to catch her, left food and water, shared sightings and helped us bring her to safety, THANK YOU! Your compassion made all the difference.
As for Tilly, she will now be given the time she needs to decompress, feel safe and receive veterinary care. We are not accepting adoption applications for her at this time.
Our hearts remain heavy for the little black dog who is still missing. We desperately hope this little one is somewhere safe.
๐พ Please remember: Pets are not disposable. They are a lifetime commitment.
If you can no longer care for your animal, please reach out for help.
They may only be a part of your world, but to them, you are their entire world.
And no animal deserves to spend six days waiting on the side of a road for someone who may never return. ๐
