People often ask why our muzzles have so much “extra” space. But what looks like extra space when a dog’s mouth is shut is actually vital for them to stay comfortable and safe when they start to pant.
And If you ask me the more important question is: why don’t all muzzles have enough space for dogs to fully pant?
Dogs being able to pant should be the norm. Having sufficient pant room lets dogs regulate their body temperature, because dogs pant the way humans sweat, they do it when it’s hot out, or when they do exercise or even when they’re stressed. And preventing a dog from being able to pant can be dangerous and even deadly in certain situations.
