Tuesday Treat: Apple Apparitions
I’ll be selling these seasonal ghost cookies at the market in Sundridge on Sunday but for those of you who enjoy baking, here is my recipe. Easily doubled or tripled if you have multiple dogs!
1 cup oat flour (120 g)
12 tablespoons plain, unsweetened applesauce (180g) — Choose one without xylitol or spices.
1 large beaten egg
Drinking water, only if needed — adjusts dough consistency
Preheat oven to 350°F / 175°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
Mix flour, applesauce and egg. Let rest for 5 minutes.
If crumbly, add water 1 teaspoon at a time. If sticky, add a little oat flour.
It should be the consistency of Playdough. Roll between parchment sheets to ⅛ inch thick. Cut into little ghosts or just use a pizza cutter to make small squares—your dog won’t care if your cookies look like ghosts👻
Bake for 18–22 minutes, until lightly golden and cooked through. Larger cookies may need longer.
Cool completely before serving.
Storage: Refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Offer over several days—not the entire batch. All treats combined should provide no more than 10% of daily calories.
