Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS)

Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) The Langley Animal Protection Society is committed to saving lives and serving communities, providing care to thousands of animals in need each year.

LAPS was established in 2003 by a dedicated group of volunteers. These volunteers were eager to see a positive change in the way stray, lost and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for in Langley. In order to uphold these founding member's values, we continue to focus on providing excellent service to our community and overcoming the challenges facing animals in Langley. Based at the Patti D

ale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove, our staff and volunteers use a progressive and humane approach to care for thousands of dogs, cats and farm animals each year. All animals that are cared for by LAPS benefit from environmental enrichment, frequent exercise, nutritious food and top quality medical care. Our staff and volunteers ensure that each animal has the best chance at a happy and healthy life.

BACK TO SCHOOL PUPPY NAMING CONTEST!

Back to school is here, and we want to celebrate some of the incredible teachers, principals and student supports who make such a difference in the lives of local students!

Yesterday, LAPS welcomed 7 adorable puppies from an accidental litter whose family was unable to find homes for them. Sadly, accidental litters like this are something we still see far too often.

But these little ones have given us a fun idea…

We want to name our 7 puppies after amazing local (Langley City and Township) school staff!

Students and families, here’s how to participate:

ON LAPS FACEBOOK account comment with the name of a teacher, principal or school support worker you think deserves to be honoured, along with their school and a little bit about why they’re so special.

Then, show some love for other nominations by liking your favourites!

Voting starts TODAY and closes September 8th at noon. We’ll do our best to select one teacher or principal from each school to name the puppies after.

Seven puppies. Seven names. Seven incredible educators to celebrate. Let the nominations begin!

Please note that LAPS will be closed on Labor Day and will reopen on September 8thFor animal concerns in the Township Of...

Want to help save tiny lives like Bambino?

There’s still time to sign up for our September 9th Neonatal Kitten Care Training with the National Kitten College!

LAPS and other animal welfare organizations throughout our community are always looking for more foster homes, particularly for vulnerable neonatal and orphaned kittens. If you’ve ever thought about fostering but weren’t sure you had the knowledge or confidence, this is an excellent place to start.

Learn the latest evidence-based information on feeding, monitoring and caring for these tiny kittens and gain the skills you need to help give them the best possible start in life.

LAPS is proud to be Canada’s first National Kitten College Campus, and we’re excited to share this training with fosters, volunteers, animal welfare professionals and anyone interested in learning how to help.

**Space is limited, so sign up soon!**

Can’t attend in person but would like access to the Zoom link? We are accepting registrations for in person and zoom attendees at [email protected]

Meet Vader! 🐾🖤

Vader is a sensitive soul with a heart that’s absolutely worth the wait. 💕 He may seem shy at first, but once he trusts you, he becomes one of the sweetest, most loyal companions ever. 🐶✨

This smart boy already knows how to shake a paw 🐾 and loves having a confident dog friend to help him feel brave. 🐕 Because he’s nervous around new people, Vader needs a quiet, adult-only home with one or two patient humans who’ll let him set the pace. 🏡💛

If you believe the best relationships are built on patience and unconditional love, Vader might be your perfect match. 💞 Give him time, and he’ll give you his whole heart. 🖤🐾

Celebrating 10 Years at LAPS!
Today we’re celebrating someone who has truly become part of the heart of LAPS - Lina!

Lina started as a superstar volunteer before officially joining our Animal Care team in 2016. Since then, she has grown alongside LAPS, becoming a trusted leader, mentor and incredibly important part of our team.

As our Animal Medical Coordinator, Lina oversees the health care of hundreds of animals at a time, works closely with our veterinary partners and supports our team every day. She also helps train and welcome new staff, passing along 10 years of knowledge to the next generation of LAPS employees, and plays an important role in our partnership with Douglas College Animal Health Program.

Lina’s story with LAPS is personal too. After coming to Canada from Colombia, she credits her time here with helping her learn English. Ten years later, she is a Canadian Citizen and thank goodness as it is hard to imagine LAPS without her!

Lina, thank you for your incredible dedication, compassion and for giving so much of yourself to LAPS and the animals we serve. We love you, appreciate you and are so lucky to have you in our LAPS family. Happy 10 years!

🐾 No, we didn’t post the same photo twice… and no, you’re not seeing double! 👀

Luka and Deano came to LAPS at separate times, but we suspect these handsome boys may be brothers! 🐶🐶 They are both looking for forever homes, but they are not a bonded pair and do not need to be adopted together.

Meet Deano 💙
Deano is a loving, enthusiastic young pup who is ready to find his adventure buddy! He loves being with his people and would thrive with an active family that enjoys walks, hikes, beach days, road trips, and exploring the great outdoors. 🌲🏖️🚗

He is still learning his manners and can be a little jumpy or mouthy when excited, but he has a soft mouth and never means any harm. With patience, positive training, and consistency, Deano has the potential to be an amazing companion.

Deano loves playing with other dogs and may enjoy a home with another playful canine friend. Dog parks can be overwhelming for him, so supervised play in a safe setting is best. 🐕

Ready for a loyal best friend who is always up for an adventure? Deano could be your guy!

Meet Luka 💚
Luka is a playful, affectionate, treat-loving pup with a big personality! He enjoys squeaky toys, walks, games, and spending time with his people. 🎾

He is a smart boy who already knows cues like “sit” and responds well to positive reinforcement. Luka can be social with other dogs when well matched and may enjoy a canine companion.

Like his lookalike Deano, Luka can jump up or get mouthy when excited. He has a soft mouth and does not mean any harm, but he needs a family committed to ongoing training. Luka is looking for an adult-only home or a home with older children.

Luka can become anxious when left alone, so he would thrive with a patient, active family that can help him build confidence and independence over time. 💚

🚨🐾 STRAY OF THE DAY — FOUND DOG 🐾

Bingo ( LAPS name) is an approximately one-year-old Husky mix who was brought to LAPS after being found near the 6800 block of 205 Street. 📍

This sweet girl arrived without permanent identification, and we are unsure whether she has been spayed. 🐶💙

Do you recognize Bingo? 👀 If she is your beloved pup, please give us a call so we can help reunite you! 🏡✨

📞 Proof of ownership is required for redemption.

Please share this post to help Bingo find her way home! 🙏🐾💙
