Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) The Langley Animal Protection Society is committed to saving lives and serving communities, providing care to thousands of animals in need each year.

LAPS was established in 2003 by a dedicated group of volunteers. These volunteers were eager to see a positive change in the way stray, lost and unwanted animals were sheltered and cared for in Langley. In order to uphold these founding member's values, we continue to focus on providing excellent service to our community and overcoming the challenges facing animals in Langley. Based at the Patti Dale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove, our staff and volunteers use a progressive and humane approach to care for thousands of dogs, cats and farm animals each year. All animals that are cared for by LAPS benefit from environmental enrichment, frequent exercise, nutritious food and top quality medical care. Our staff and volunteers ensure that each animal has the best chance at a happy and healthy life.

Meet Ms. Gleeson!

Everyone here at LAPS is wondering how Ms. Gleeson is still waiting for her forever home?! At just 3.5 months old, this little girl is the last of her litter still looking for her family, and it’s certainly no fault of her own! 💕

Ms. Gleeson is an absolute sweetheart, Husky, German Shepherd mix, with a whole lot of puppy personality. She’s playful, affectionate, eager to learn, and always ready for her next adventure. She’s already mastered sit and lie down and is doing SO well in her current foster home! She’s also proving to be quite the social butterfly! She happily lives alongside another dog and an adult cat and has been such a wonderful foster pup.

She’s got the puppy energy, the cuddles, the wiggly tail, and the sweetest personality! Now all she needs is a family to grow up with and love her as much as we do!

HEAD TICKLER… LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT?!

We put our shelter dogs to the test with the head tickler, and every pup had their own opinion! 😂

Some leaned right in for more, some weren’t quite convinced, and others seemed to be wondering what on earth we were doing!

The best part? Watching each dog discover what feels good to them. Because enrichment is all about giving our pups opportunities to explore, experience new things, and choose what makes them happy. ❤️

As we head toward B.C.’s provincial election, LAPS has reached out to all candidates running in the three electoral districts representing Langley: Langley-Abbotsford, Langley-Walnut Grove, and Langley-Willowbrook.

Each candidate was provided with the same questions and invited to share their perspectives on issues affecting animals and the people who love them, including:
🐾 Strengthening animal welfare and protection
🏠 The growing lack of pet-friendly and affordable housing
❤️ Additional supports for people struggling to care for their animals
🐶 Keeping pets and families together during times of crisis
🤝 The role the Province can play in supporting animal welfare organizations and communities

At LAPS, we see every day how closely animal welfare and human well-being are connected. Housing, affordability, access to veterinary care and community supports can all affect whether a family is able to keep and care for a beloved pet.
As responses are submitted, we will share them with our community so you can hear directly from the candidates themselves.

Congratulations to Langley’s newly elected municipal leaders!

To the new Mayors and Councillors of the City and Township of Langley, LAPS looks forward to working with you to make our community even better for animals and the people who love them. Animals don’t recognize municipal boundaries, and caring for them unites our Greater Langley community.

The human-animal bond enriches our lives through companionship, connection, and a stronger sense of belonging. We also know that what affects people affects their animals. Financial hardship, housing and food insecurity, and barriers to medical care can make it difficult for families to meet their pets’ needs and, at times, put the human-animal bond at risk. Supporting people through these challenges also helps protect the animals who depend on them.

Together, we can strengthen animal welfare, support animals and families when they are most vulnerable, enhance public safety, and help ensure every animal has the opportunity to be safe, healthy, and loved.

Congratulations to everyone elected, and thank you to all who put their names forward to serve our community. We look forward to working together. 💙🐾

These adorable kittens are coming to Dead Frog Brewery on October 17 from 2–5 PM, and they can’t wait to meet you! 🐾

Come meet your potential new best friend while enjoying a delicious b**r with our friends at Dead Frog. 🍻

Guests who complete an application on-site will have their applications prioritized for the kitten they’re interested in. 📋 Please note: we expect lots of interest, and there may be multiple applications for each kitten.

And the LAPS Firefighter Tap is back for October! 🚒 For every Mango Chili Wheat Ale sold, proceeds will be donated to LAPS.

🍂 Fall in Love with Barkley! 🍂

Barkley is 88 pounds of love, kisses and gloriously untamed rock-star hair. He is also—full disclosure—a bit of a humper. Nobody’s perfect. 😂

Barkley has been at LAPS since June. When he first arrived, he was frightened, uncomfortable, thin and in need of some TLC. Our team gave him the time, care and pampering he needed to feel safe—and slowly, the real Barkley began to shine.

Today, he is a big, affectionate goofball who loves galloping around the yard, rolling in the grass and giving enthusiastic kisses. He has completely captured the hearts of our staff and become a shelter favourite.

Recently, Barkley enjoyed a special trip away from the shelter. He was good boy in the car and loved meeting new people. He stopped at Clearview Garden and Pet Shop to show off his best fall poses before heading to Bosley’s, where the staff spoiled him with pets and treats. Barkley took his responsibilities as a local celebrity very seriously. ⭐

Behind the goofy antics and magnificent hair is a sensitive dog who has worked hard to overcome a difficult beginning. He is ready for a family who will laugh with him, continue helping him with his manners and love him as wholeheartedly, as every dog deserves!
