Sleep isnāt just ādowntimeā for dogsāitās one of the most important pieces of their overall well-being š¾
Puppies especially need a LOT of quality sleep (often 16ā20 hours a day!) because itās when their brains develop, their bodies grow, and everything theyāre learning starts to stick. Without enough rest, itās much harder for them to focus, regulate emotions, and make good choices⦠which often shows up as biting, zoomies, or just seeming āout of control.ā
But itās not just puppiesādogs of all ages rely on proper rest. Quality sleep helps with:
⢠Learning and memory (huge for training!)
⢠Emotional regulation
⢠Physical recovery and health
⢠Lower stress levels
An overtired dog can look a lot like an untrained dog. If your dog is struggling, one of the first things to look at is their sleep routine.
Creating a calm environment, using a kennel or designated rest space, and building structured downtime into your dogās day can make a huge difference. Rest is just as important as exercise and trainingāitās where everything comes together.
Donāt underestimate the power of a good nap š
