Our district mini finals is this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to having a ton of fun together! Bodywork before competing is like a ritual to me, just as important as grounding and getting rid of unnecessary emotions that aren’t serving our partnership.

What are your pre comp rituals?

Bringing back a horse after injury is a mind game! The endless questions: is she ready? Can she handle this? Am I pushing her hard enough? Am I expecting too much? Tell me I’m not alone on this one!!

But… what I’ve learned so far is that intuition is powerful, and the more I listen, the louder it gets, the clearer the message and things start to fall into place better. That feeling of cohesiveness comes to the surface and puts my mind at ease.

Stepping into “trusting myself” cause I’m willing to listen is a beautiful, but sometimes rocky journey (like them all 🤪)

When the foundation is there, the building blocks for everything else already exists. 🏕️

I wanted to hobble train Ace, H***h and Roxy before heading to Cypress Hills. But as luck would have it, we ran out of time.

One day we decided to ride out to let them graze and thought we’d just go slow, intrude the hobbles and see how it goes.

Not a single freak out. Gentle tugging against the hobbles as they figured out what’s what… then they ate. Happy. Content. Relaxed.

Not only is having a solid training foundation important, but so is making sure their bodies have a solid foundation so they can physically do what you’re asking:

Healthy feet at ideal angles, aligned skeletal system, joints with optimum range of motion, and muscles, tendons and ligaments all working together. When the body is one large cohesive unit—the sky’s the limit.

Never skimp on the foundation. 🐴
