I'm going to get ahead of something before the predictable gossip, whispers, and accusations begin.
Not everyone who wants to explore digital art can freehand draw. And guess what? They don't have to.
As I've started learning Procreate, I've discovered just how many talented artists sell line art, brushes, stamps, textures, and other creative resources.
Instead of tracing AI-generated images, some of us are choosing to spend our money SUPPORTING actual artists by purchasing their work.
I'm a complete beginner. I've never claimed to be skilled at freehand drawing, and I'm not pretending otherwise. I'm just starting this journey, and I fully intend to use purchased line art, brushes, and other tools to help bring my ideas to life. I'll continue doing so for as long as I feel it's necessary.
That doesn't mean I'll claim to have drawn everything from scratch. There's a difference between being dishonest about your work and being transparent about the tools you've used.
Let's not forget that Procreate itself offers countless brushes and stamps for animals, fur, flowers, landscapes, textures, and more. These tools exist for a reason.
Not everything is AI. Not everyone is trying to pass themselves off as a professional artist. And nobody deserves to be attacked for simply wanting to create something.
It's ridiculous that we've reached a point where people feel the need to defend a harmless hobby before they've even had the chance to enjoy it. I have my purchase receipts if anyone ever feels the need to question me, although I shouldn't have to prove anything.
I've created a private page to share my learning journey because I'm not entirely comfortable exposing something I'm excited about to the negativity I've witnessed in this community.
And to anyone else wanting to get into digital art but feeling discouraged because you can't freehand draw, please don't let that stop you. There are other ways to create, and I'm happy to share the resources I've discovered if you message me.
Support artists. Respect their licenses. Be honest about your tools. And stop gatekeeping creativity. ❤️
