Why do I love showing dogs?
Because for me, showing is so much more than walking into a ring and hoping for a ribbon.
It starts years before that moment ā studying pedigrees, learning from the dogs before me, making breeding decisions, and trying to put the right pieces together to create the next generation. There is so much thought, planning and hope that goes into creating a litter, and eventually, one of those puppies grows up and stands beside me in the ring.
Then comes the work.
Conditioning. Training. Handling. Learning what makes each dog tick and figuring out how to bring out the very best in them. Building that partnership and watching a puppy develop into the dog you envisioned when you planned the breeding in the first place.
And then you walk into the ring.
There is something incredibly special about standing there with a dog that you bred, raised and put so much of yourself into. To have a judge recognize that dog ā and ultimately recognize the breeding behind it ā is incredibly rewarding.
Of course I love the competition. I love the adrenaline, the challenge and the constant drive to improve.
But what I think I love most is seeing it all come full circle.
Studying a pedigree. Imagining what you could create. Making the breeding. Raising the litter. Watching them grow. Putting in the hours. And eventually standing in the ring with the result of all of it.
That is the part that keeps me coming back.
Because when you create something you are truly proud of, there is nothing quite like having the opportunity to step into that ring and let them speak for themselves. š
