🐾 Behind the Scenes at Riverhund Kennels!

Welcome to the back half of our kennel, where our dogs call home! 🏡🐾

Each of our dogs has their own 4’ x 4’ indoor space, complete with an elevated Kuranda bed, fresh water, chew toys and a comfortable place to relax and unwind.

Our kennel is fully climate-controlled, with air conditioning and ceiling fans to keep everyone cool during the warmer months and in-floor radiant heating throughout the winter. This allows us to maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature year-round, even through our cold Canadian winters! ❄️☀️

While our dogs absolutely love spending time outdoors in their runs, those spaces are for exercise, fresh air, playtime and enrichment — not where they live!

Cleanliness, comfort, safety and the overall well-being of our dogs are always at the forefront of how we operate. A tremendous amount of thought, planning and daily work goes into maintaining a facility that meets their needs.

We love sharing a glimpse behind the scenes at Riverhund and showing you the spaces our dogs call home! ❤️🐾

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Riverhund Kennels! 🍂🦃🤎

This Thanksgiving, we have so much to be grateful for. From our incredible Riverhund families who give our puppies such wonderful homes, to the friendships we’ve made, the memories we’ve created, and all the successes we’ve been fortunate enough to celebrate this year.

None of it would be quite as special without the amazing people and dogs who are part of our Riverhund family. We are truly grateful for all of you!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and a little extra time with your four-legged companions! 🐾🍁🧡

A little behind the scenes at Riverhund 🐾

Outdoor time is a big part of our dogs’ everyday routine. Our indoor/outdoor runs allow them to spend plenty of time outside enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and time with their buddies, while still giving us a safe and controlled environment for everyone.

When our dogs are running in open spaces, they can enjoy being part of larger groups. However, in smaller spaces, we believe dogs are generally more comfortable and settled in groups of two or three. Fenced areas and confined spaces can sometimes create tension or conflict, so thoughtful group sizes and careful management help us keep everyone safe, happy and relaxed.

Our runs allow us to choose appropriate groups and make sure each dog gets the social time, exercise and downtime they need, while also giving us the flexibility to separate dogs when necessary.

And, of course, keeping their spaces clean is a constant part of kennel life. Clean runs, happy dogs, lots of outdoor time… and usually a whole lot of playing. ❤️

It may not be the glamorous side of breeding, but it’s a big part of life behind the scenes at Riverhund.

✨ Another incredible weekend for Taylor! ✨

Taylor had a fantastic weekend at the Burlington Kennel Club shows, winning 3 out of 4 Herding Groups! 🏆🏆🏆

We are so incredibly proud of this girl. Taylor has only been shown at two show weekends this year, and has already earned an amazing 6 Group wins! 🤯❤️

With very limited showing, Taylor is currently the #3 Norwegian Buhund in Canada 🇨🇦

A huge thank you to all of the judges who recognized and awarded Taylor this past weekend. We are thrilled with everything this girl continues to accomplish and couldn’t be prouder of her. ❤️

🇺🇸✨ What an incredible US National Specialty for Riverhund! ✨🇨🇦

We came all the way to Montana to compete at one of the biggest and most special events of the year for our breed, and we are heading home with very full hearts. ❤️

We are so incredibly proud of what our dogs accomplished this week — all of our girls coming home with ribbons, Flint’s daughter winning the no. Champion classes, to celebrating the final show of a very special boy’s career, to watching one of the girls who helped build Riverhund remind us that she’s still got it. 🥹

A huge thank you to our judge Linda Clark for the wonderful words about our dogs and for recognizing them so beautifully. It was truly a pleasure to show to you.

Congratulations and thank you to all the breeders and owners involved in these dogs and pedigrees. None of this is possible without the dedication of others.

These are the moments that make all the planning, health testing, raising puppies, training, travelling, early mornings and thousands of kilometres worthwhile. Breeding is always about looking toward the future, but weekends like this also give us a chance to stop and appreciate where we started and how far we’ve come.

From the young dogs just beginning their journey, to the dogs finishing theirs, to the generations behind them — we are incredibly proud of our Riverhund family. ❤️

Montana, you have been very, very good to us. 🏔️🇺🇸

Now it’s time to point the Riverhund van toward home. Safe travels to everyone making the journey, and congratulations to all of the winners on a wonderful National Specialty! 🐾❤️

💋 The Mean Girls are 2½ weeks old… and apparently, the limit does not exist. 💋

Eyes are OPEN 👀, wrestling has officially begun, and all three girls have already successfully staged their first jailbreak out of the whelping box. 😳

Regina, Gretchen & Karen are getting stronger, sassier and more mobile by the day — and judging by the attitude already developing, I have a feeling we’re going to have our hands FULL with these snotty little girls. 😂

At just 2½ weeks old, the Mean Girls have officially decided the rules no longer apply to them.
