"Cotton" 8 mths and 15 years. He is now 10 years older than me in dog years (and in better shape !) He is in the background of all merle dogs from DBD as he is from the male "Shockey" of the original brother/sister merle Poodles imported from Texas in Jan. 2011. He is a cryptic merle which means the markings don't show because he is too pale coloured. Genetically he is red.

I think I have always understood this because of my background in training obedience and showing in CKC trials from 11 years of age. Your dog works off your energy. Obedience trial trained dogs will also work on hand signals with no words spoken (and are required to at advanced levels.
