Something interesting - From Firefighting history 🚒

Did you know Dalmatians were more than just the mascot of the fire service?

Long before motorized fire trucks, fire engines were pulled by teams of horses. Dalmatians were chosen because of their natural ability to work around horses. They would run alongside the fire wagon, helping keep the horses calm during the fast, noisy trip to the scene.

Once firefighters arrived, the dogs stayed behind to guard the horses and protect the valuable equipment from curious crowds or thieves while crews battled the fire.

Although they no longer have an operational role in most fire departments, Dalmatians remain one of the most recognizable and enduring symbols of the fire service, honoring a tradition that dates back more than 200 years.
