Impulse control, you have to wait it out until they offer you the behaviour you want and make sure to mark it with a yes! Yes is the word we use that is like the click in clicker training. I like using yes or good as my marker words rather than employing clickers. What do you like to do? Naming behaviours and marker words or clicker or both?

We have some insanely exciting news!

Feast your eyes on this beauty!

MIni Bernedoodles, 35-45lb, coming up next year from 2 new additions - Lady Blue an almost 1 yr old Bernedoodle and our new little Bernedoodle stud, Rusty!

Rusty is still a baby, but his genetics are the best!

Paired with Lady Blue they will make all Tri colours with or without the merle pattern, all with wavy coats.

All of our breeding dogs undergo full structural health testing before breeding, so hip and elbow X-rays, patellar, cardiac and eye certification too. DNA testing is an important part of health testing but it’s just a small piece of the process. We are

We were a little off grid this past weekend as one of our Scallywag Doodles family came for a visit. We hosted Harper - formally Juniper from Tia and Rolos Trees litter of April 2023, and her family for a mini vacay!
Thursday evening was pretty low key, BBQ dinner and catch ups, Friday Harper tried out at Pooch Pool School a non profit, NADD certified dock diving venue for competitive sport dogs - that we sponsor every year.
Then Saturday we hit up the dog friendly Farmers Market in Duncan, followed by some chill out time on the dog patio at the Craig Street Brew House, rounded out with a splashing good time at the Cowichan River off leash dog park at McAdams Park, combining it with a bit of puppy socialization for Sunny(Kinsol) and Ember.

Tips & Tricks
The simple things that make all the difference!

The “Go to Bed” or “Place” cue is one of my absolute favorites—and for good reason! It teaches your puppy an important life skill: how to be calm and settle when asked.

Who doesn’t want a calm puppy every now and then? Actually, I’ll take a calm puppy any time except during playtime! 😄 If you want your puppy to learn how to relax while life is happening around them, this is a behavior worth practicing.

Start by teaching your puppy to go to a dog bed, rug, or blanket and stay there for just a few seconds. Gradually increase the time with each practice session. Move the bed around your house and practice in different rooms so your puppy learns that “Go to Bed” means the same thing wherever you are.

Once your puppy can comfortably stay on the bed for about 20 seconds, start making the exercise more challenging. Use the 4 D’s—distance, duration, distractions and difficulty—to gradually build the behavior.

Practice “Go to Bed” during everyday activities:
While you’re cooking dinner
While you’re folding laundry
While you’re working at your computer
While you’re watching TV
While you’re reading a book
When someone comes to the door

In fact, the doorbell or a knock at the door can eventually become the cue for your puppy to go to their bed. What a great way to give your dog something appropriate to do when guests arrive!

You don’t even need a special dog bed. A rug, blanket or mat works perfectly. Once your puppy understands the behavior, mix it up and use whatever is already nearby.

Your goal? By the time your puppy is around one year old, work toward being able to “Go to Bed” and relax for up to an hour while you go about your day.

A calm dog who knows how to settle on cue is a wonderful thing—and it’s a skill your puppy can use for life!

Rhea’s little petite Goldendoodles
are 10days old! Almost ready to open their eyes - any day now!

They are already starting to get up on their legs, very wobbly, just a couple of pups, but it won’t be long. Once eyes and ears open, look out!

We shall enjoy what’s left of the peace…..
