We have another fabulous cat available for adoption.
Miss Frizzle came to us in rough shape. She was badly malnourished and had severe ear mites and a very heavy worm load. She's feeling so much better now and is working hard to become fabulous. She is around three years old but has an old soul personality in her tiny little 6 pound body.
Miss Frizzle might get along with another mellow cat who just wants to share space peacefully but she would also do well as an only cat as long as she's not left alone every day for long work hours. She does still have a silly playful side but her favourite thing is a soft warm bed and as many licky treats as you'll let her have.

We have close to 50 cats in our care right now and we could really use your help to keep them all well fed. Our food cupboards are dangerously low!
We have nursing moms and weaning kittens so we're going through a lot of kitten food!
The main type of kibble we need for the adults is Canadian Naturals chicken and rice kibble.
The kittens would all be grateful for Fancy Feast canned kitten food.
And all the adults in care would be happy with any flavour of Friskies pate canned food. They're not super fussy on flavor but they definitely prefer the pate.

If you're able to help us keep the kitties happy with full bellies we would be very grateful.
There are several ways that you can help.

~Our friends at Buckerfields in Duncan will do purchases of Canadian Naturals kibble over the phone or in the store and will let us know when they have food for us to pick up. You can call them at 250 748 8171 or go see them in person at 5410 Trans Canada HWY.

~Our friends at Puppycats Pet Emporium in Chemainus will also do purchases over the phone or in the store. You can call them at 250 324 2220 or go see them in person at 9616 Chemainus Road.

~You can also purchase food for the cats from our friends at Casey and Co Pet Supply in Cobble Hill. You can call them at 250 733 1152 or go see them in person at #22- 1400 Cowichan Bay Road

Thank you for helping us help the cats!!

(If you prefer Amazon we have the kitten food and Friskies on our wish list here, https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/2BP1NHRMWSJPC?ref_=wl_share)

🐾AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 🐾

We can't believe there has been no interest in these beautiful cats.

~Alfredo is a very sweet and gentle boy who is looking for his forever home. He had some very rough days in his past but he's more than ready to put that all behind him and build some new happy memories with his forever family. Alfredo is best suited to a quieter home with no young children. He will likely get along with another mellow cat but we don't think he will like dogs. We may consider him as an only pet if he's not home alone every day during long work hours. Alfredo is very affectionate and once he has settled in he will be a snuggly boy.

Winnie and Robin are a bonded mother and daughter pair who will only be adopted together. Robin is the more independent one who will take a little time to show you her silly side and Winnie will be your goofy little shadow once they've settled in. Winnie was a very young mom so these two are more like siblings. With these two you'll get the bonus of having the silly kitten energy without going through the destructive and bitey tiny kitten stage.

BOTTLE DRIVE REMINDER🧃🐾

Our monthly bottle drive for June is a little ways off still but we're giving you a reminder now so that you can put it in your calendar and start saving your empties for us.
Our rescue focuses on the most vulnerable cats of the Cowichan Valley. The ones who have no homes and no people to look after them. We're also working hard to address the massive feline overpopulation problem in the valley and to improve their lives by reducing disease and treating medical issues.
These cats need us and we could really use your help so please save us your empties!!
We look forward to seeing you in June!

DATE: SATURDAY JUNE 20

TIME: 9AM TO 2PM

LOCATION: THE RETURN IT DEPOT PARKING LOT AT 6476 NORCROSS ROAD IN DUNCAN

We had both our badly injured tomcats at the vet today. Thor with his painful front paw ended up having a serious infection in the paw. This is treatable and he should recover well. There is evidence of an older bite wound so that's an easy one to figure out how it happened. Though we're not sure if it's from another cat or a raccoon. He's very scared of the raccoons so it could be from a scuffle with them. Poor old Mumford has clearly been dealing with a painful back leg for a long time. The muscles are so contracted from not using the leg that the vet couldn't straighten it out properly. Unfortunately there were some findings that are still inconclusive but one of the possibilities is osteosarcoma. We're not making any permanent decisions for him yet though because it is a rare type of cancer for cats to have and there are other possibilities so we're waiting for the final xray report from the specialist before we decide anything. For now we're keeping Mumpford happy with
a soft fluffy bed, lots of treats, some good pain meds, and some extra special care from the Aunties. They'll start working on getting him comfortable enough for us to scritch those big ol mumps cheeks!
Please send Mumpford some good energy for a positive outcome!! We so badly want this old man to have the experience of living as a beloved pet for his golden years ❤️

I'm going to share some sad news now because so many people here stepped up so quickly when we reached out for help with an injured feral cat and I think you all deserve to know.
Biscotti went for his surgery yesterday and sadly we did not have the outcome we had hoped for. When Biscotti was being prepped for his tail amputation procedure there were some concerns from his vet so we agreed that he needed blood tests. Unfortunately his test results were so out of whack that he would have required a blood transfusion to stabilize him enough for any surgery or treatment. This would have involved significant time at a 24/7 vet hospital and many follow up blood tests to see if things were stabilizing. Being a feral cat this would have been extremely stressful for him and the prognosis was still very poor. He did not have a good chance of survival and we firmly believe that it would have been cruel to put him through all of this. His tail was also much worse than we had first thought. The entire tail was necrotic and he had an old lower spine injury that was consistent with a tail pull injury. This does not automatically mean from a human pulling his tail. It could just as easily have been a predator or an accident. But either way, this poor cat was suffering and the kindest thing we could do for him was humane euthanasia. This is not a decision we make lightly but it was absolutely the right decision for Biscotti. He would have died an awful death out in the bush so we're very grateful to his feeder for alerting us to his situation. They saved him from a horrible ending.
We are also extremely grateful for everyone who contributed to help Biscotti have his surgery so quickly. Please know that all funds raised will still go directly towards other very deserving cats who are also in need of our help.

RIP Biscotti 💔

Thank you so much, yet again, to everyone who supports our bottle drives month after month and for all of your kind words. This is a huge team effort and we are so glad to have you as part of our team. And thank you for all of the hard work put in from our incredible volunteers who absolutely rocked it today! They made sorting and counting that huge pile of empties look easy!
With todays combined efforts from everyone we were able to raise just over $3800 for the cats! This comes at a time that we desperately need it to pay down our vet bill so that we can keep helping these throwaway and forgotten cats, so Thank You!!
