Update on our boy Teen Burger.
The xray specialist said that he has an old significant fracture that is healed over and that the injured leg is shorter than his other one. I didn't think to ask if it was shorter due to the fracture or he was born with it shorter. Anyway, that part is good news because it means it's not a tumor. The odd part is that he has gas under the skin which usually indicates an infection/abscess but there's no evidence of a puncture wound. This possibly means an infection in the bone. So we're trying a long course of antibiotics and will be observing his comfort levels. Then we'll recheck him to see where we're at. If we can't wipe out the infection and his leg remains painful we will have to discuss amputation. This poor cat is a year old at the most and has already lived a very hard life.
We would love to find Teen Burger a foster home who could commit to housing him for at least the next month during his treatment. It would need to be someone with some experience with shy cats. Please email us if you're interested.
