Are you seeing more foxes around?🦊

The City of Dauphin has recently received an increase in calls about fox activity within city limits, including foxes denning under homes, decks, and sheds.

While sightings can be concerning, foxes are naturally shy animals and are generally not aggressive toward people or pets. Foxes are a normal part of Manitoba’s wildlife and are protected under provincial legislation.

Like many municipalities across Canada, the City does not trap or remove foxes unless there is an immediate threat to public safety.

If you have a fox denning on your property, here are some recommended steps:
✅ Use light, sound, or scent deterrents (such as ammonia-soaked rags) to gently encourage the fox to relocate
✅ Do not disturb dens containing young kits. Wait until they leave naturally before sealing access points
✅ Contact a licensed pest control professional for humane eviction assistance
✅ Block access points to help prevent future denning

If a fox appears sick, injured, or aggressive, please contact Manitoba Conservation at 204-622-2106 or the TIP line at 1-800-782-0076.
