Stop trying to WALK your reactive dog.

Start teaching them how to feel safe outside.

If your dog is overwhelmed, anxious, over-stimulated, or reacting… the answer is usually not “more exposure” or longer walks.

It starts with decompression. Sleep. Training inside. Small successful moments in your yard, driveway, or deck. Then slowly building the skills to enjoy the world one step at a time.

Slow is fast. Foundation matters. Success builds confidence

What stage are you and your dog at right now? 👇

Hot take: your reactive dog does NOT need more dog friends right now.

Sometimes the biggest win is simply learning how to walk past another dog without spiraling.

Today Luna practiced:
🐾 Walking past a dog she’s never met
🐾 Disengaging instead of escalating
🐾 Staying connected to me
🐾 Making thoughtful choices

No forcing greetings. No “socialization” pressure. No flooding.

Just training, management, communication, and tiny successful reps that build confidence.

Because reactive dogs don’t become calmer by being overwhelmed over and over.

They become calmer when we stop asking for survival… and start teaching skills ❤️

👉 Any behaviour takes time.

✅ Training a puppy is much easier than going through a systematic behaviour modification later on in life, but still, BOTH take time.

💢Time, patience, consistency, commitment and repetition.

➡️ If you attend puppy classes, but don’t spend much time training beyond that - is it really a surprise your dog is picking up some “unwanted” behaviours later in life ?

🙌If you train recall, but only to a point when your dog can recall in one environment and without any distractions - is that recall going to be 100% reliable at all times ?

🐶 If you don’t teach your puppy the value of engagement with you and walking by your side (𝙣𝙤𝙩 to be confused with walking to heel here !!), then should you really complain when your dog pulls like a train at 12 months old??

✳️ You got a dog. Great.
Now enable them to become their best selves.

Train.
Guide.
Commit time.
Give opportunities to learn.
