🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day – August 28 🐾🌈

Our pets may leave paw prints on our floors for only a short time, but they leave paw prints on our hearts forever. ❤️

Today, we honor the beloved companions who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and celebrate the unconditional love, joy, and memories they gave us. Whether they were by your side for years or only a short while, they will always hold a special place in our hearts. 🐶🐱🕊️❤️

If you’re remembering a cherished pet today, here are a few meaningful ways to honor them:
🕯️ Light a candle in their memory
📸 Look through favorite photos and videos
💬 Share a special story or treasured memory with family and friends
🐾 Make a donation to a local animal shelter or rescue in their honour

To everyone who has loved and lost a pet, please know that your grief is a reflection of the incredible bond you shared. They may be gone from our sight, but they are never gone from our hearts. 💙

If you’d like, we’d be honored if you shared a photo or memory of your special friend in the comments below. Let’s celebrate the lives of the pets who made us laugh, comforted us, and loved us unconditionally. 🌈🐾❤️

Let’s help change that by celebrating these amazing feline friends! 🖤

🎉 Ways to celebrate:
🐾 Give your black cat some extra treats, toys, and cuddles.
📸 Share a photo of your beautiful black cat in the comments—we’d love to see them!
🏡 Consider adopting or fostering a black cat from your local shelter or rescue.
❤️ Help spread the word that black cats are just as loving, playful, and wonderful as any other cat!

Every cat deserves a chance to shine—and today, the spotlight belongs to our gorgeous black cats! ✨🐈‍⬛

🐶🎉 National Spoil Your Dog Day is August 10! 🎉🐾

It’s the paw-fect excuse to shower your four-legged best friend with a little extra love! ❤️ Whether your pup enjoys tasty treats, exciting adventures, or extra snuggles, today is all about celebrating the joy they bring to our lives.

Fun ways to spoil your dog:
🦴 Treat them to homemade dog-safe biscuits or a healthy frozen snack like blueberries or pumpkin.
🧸 Surprise them with a brand-new toy or fun puzzle to keep their mind active.
🌳 Head out on a longer walk, explore a new trail, or enjoy some playtime at the park.
🛁 Give them an at-home spa day with a gentle brushing or fresh grooming session.
❤️ And of course… don’t forget the belly rubs and cuddles!

A few reminders to keep the celebration safe:
✅ Offer treats in moderation to avoid tummy troubles.
🚫 Keep chocolate, xylitol, grapes, raisins, onions, and other toxic foods well out of reach.

💬 We’d love to celebrate with you! Share a photo of your spoiled pup in the comments and tell us how you’re making their day extra special! 📸🐶💙

🇨🇦WCAH hopes everyone had a fun Canada Day, and stayed safe from the severe weather!⛈️

⚡️With that severe weather we had, some of the festivities and fireworks have been moved to Saturday!

Here are some ways to keep your pets safe, prepared, and calm during the fireworks 🎆

Fireworks can be exciting for us—but they can be frightening for our pets. A little preparation can go a long way in helping them feel safe and comfortable.

🏡 Create a Safe Space • Set up a quiet room, crate, or cozy corner away from windows • Include their favorite bed, blanket, toys, and fresh water.

🦴 Keep Them Occupied • Offer a favorite treat or a puzzle toy to provide a positive distraction.

🎵 Reduce the Noise • Close windows and curtains • Play calming music, white noise, or keep the TV on to help mask loud sounds.

🧸 Provide Comfort • Keep familiar blankets and toys nearby • Anxiety wraps or calming vests may help some pets feel more secure.

💙 Stay With Them • If possible, remain at home during fireworks • Your calm presence and reassurance can help ease their stress.

🚶 Exercise Before the Fireworks • Take dogs for a walk or enjoy some playtime before the festivities begin to help burn off extra energy.

🏷️ Check ID & Microchip Information • Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip details are current in case they become frightened and escape.

🚪 Keep Pets Indoors • Even pets that normally enjoy being outside should be safely indoors during fireworks.

🤝 Communicate with Neighbour’s • If fireworks are planned nearby, ask your neighbors to give you a heads-up so you can bring your pet indoors and help them settle into a safe, quiet space before the fireworks begin.

Every pet responds differently to fireworks. If your pet experiences severe anxiety, talk with your veterinarian about additional ways to help keep them calm and comfortable.

❤️ Have questions? We’re here to help! Wishing you and your furry family a safe and happy holiday weekend 🇨🇦

🦟 Tick and mosquito season is here — and with it, we’re seeing increasing rates of tick-borne diseases and heartworm across many areas of Canada.

Ticks are active earlier and for longer periods each year, which means pets are at risk even during months owners may not typically expect.

Diseases such as Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis, along with heartworm (spread by mosquitoes), are becoming more common in areas that were once considered low risk.

We encourage pet owners to stay informed and keep their pets protected year-round with appropriate parasite prevention.

🐾 We’ve included a helpful interactive map where you can:

✔️ Check the risk level in your area
✔️ View tick and heartworm trends across Canada
✔️ Learn more about regional parasite risks

Be sure to take a look at the map through the link below and contact our clinic if you have questions about the best prevention plan for your pet! 🐶🐱

The data in this map was provided by IDEXX Laboratories and ANTECH Diagnostics. It is statistically significant and it serves as a strong representation of the parasite activity for each area. However, it does not represent the total number of positive tests. Instead, we estimate it represents less....

✨ Friday Floofs at West Carleton ✨

Everyone give a warm welcome to Alfie 🐶

He’s an adorable 16-week-old Cockapoo who came in to see Dr. Thom for his puppy vaccines yesterday! 💉

Alfie was equal parts brave, fluffy, and curious — with plenty of tail wags and puppy charm to brighten our day. He handled his visit like a champ and earned lots of cuddles from the team along the way. ❤️

We hope you have the best weekend, Alfie!
Thanks for making our Friday extra floofy. 🐾
