Newborn puppies and kittens have very naïve immune systems. Severe infections can be introduced and spread when feeding, by bacterial contamination of ni***es and bottles. Cleaning ALL feeding utensils and equipment after feeding is critical to the maintenance of good health in newborns. Here are a few easy steps to follow for cleaning ni***es and bottles:

Step 1: Rinse – Take apart and rinse all bottles, ni***es, and mixing utensils with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Detergent – Following the lukewarm water rinse, wash utensils with a detergent/sanitization soap and hot water (50°C; 120°F), use a bottle brush if necessary.

Step 3: Clean Rinse – Rinse detergent from utensils with clean water or, ideally, a 10% bleach solution.

Step 4: Dry – Allow for air drying (making sure not to place openings face down on any surfaces where water can pool and allow for bacterial growth) or pat dry with a clean towel.

Mixing KittenGro and PuppyGro milk replacer is easy! Each pouch includes a measuring scoop, and the powder dissolves quickly in to water.

For complete accuracy, we recommend using a scale to measure powder and a thermometer to measure the temperature of water for mixing and again before feeding.

For the first 4 weeks of life, puppies and kittens need mother's milk and/or milk replacer. After this period, they can start consuming solid food. But, just like human babies, that should be a gradual transition.

Mixed milk replacer is great for pouring on top of solid food to soften it and make it easier for young animals to eat. This softened food can help make the weaning transition easier and make sure puppies and kittens are getting all the nutrients they need.
