Meet Buddy 💙
I’ll admit, I’ve been slacking on posting lately …and I don’t offer my board and train program very often anymore, but some lucky pups still get to take advantage of it. Buddy was one of them.
Buddy is a 6 month old farm pup living at an equestrian facility. And here’s something people often forget…farm dogs, especially young ones, still need real world exposure. Just because they live on a property, doesn’t mean they automatically become confident, balanced dogs. Getting out into the world helps prevent those “nightmare” moments when you finally do need to take them somewhere new.
During his stay, we focused on building a solid communication system and foundation in obedience, ..recall, leash skills, engagement, and all the basics that make life easier for both dog and human. We also worked on proper socialization, since Buddy could get a little too exuberant with his friends. And we added exposure work to help him learn how to move through the world with confidence and clarity.
Even though some of the training didn’t directly apply to the barn environment, the coolest part is how well Buddy generalized everything. Because we built a strong reward system and clear communication, he’s now able to use those skills for the specific tasks his mom needs from him at the facility.
Buddy learned how to learn, how to win, and how to problem solve …all the things that create a confident, capable young dog. His mom is thrilled with his progress.
Way to go, Buddy 💙
