🧠🐾 6 Great Ways to Challenge Your Dog’s Mind
Physical exercise is important—but your dog’s brain needs a workout too!
Mental enrichment can help keep dogs engaged, build confidence, provide an outlet for natural behaviours, and add a little more fun to their day.
Here are 6 simple ways to get that brain working:
🐾 1. Work on a new trick
Learning something new encourages your dog to think, focus, and problem-solve. Keep sessions short, positive, and fun!
🧩 2. Try interactive games & toys
Puzzle feeders, treat-dispensing toys, hide-and-seek, and scent games can turn ordinary moments into a mental workout.
🚗 3. Bring them along on an errand
For dogs who enjoy outings, a safe trip in the car or a visit to a dog-friendly location offers new sights, sounds, and smells to explore.
💼 4. Give your dog a job
Ask them to find a toy, carry something appropriate, search for treats, or practice a task they know. Dogs often love having a purpose!
👋 5. Introduce something new
New people, environments, smells, surfaces, or experiences can provide wonderful enrichment—as long as your dog is comfortable. Never force an interaction.
🧸 6. Rotate their toys
You don’t always need to buy something new! Put a few toys away and rotate them every week or two. An old favourite can suddenly feel exciting again.
Mental enrichment doesn’t have to be complicated. Even a few minutes of brain work can make your dog’s day more interesting. 💙
