Skunk spray contains oily, sulfur-based compounds that cling tightly to your dog’s coat and skin. Some of these compounds, called thioacetates, can react with water and release even more of the strong, unpleasant skunk odor.

This doesn’t mean that water physically pushes the smell into the skin. Rather, water can trigger a chemical reaction that makes the odor stronger, and the oily residue can be difficult to remove with ordinary shampoo alone.

What should you do instead?

1. Keep your dog outside and avoid letting them rub against furniture, carpets, or other surfaces.
2. Start with a commercial skunk-odor neutralizer, following the product instructions. Apply it before wetting the coat if the product directions recommend this.
3. Rinse only after the neutralizing product has had time to work as directed.
4. If the spray has reached your dog’s eyes or mouth, or your dog shows signs of irritation or illness, contact your veterinarian.

Now you can choose your doggie’s spa day according to their needs. Packages are chosen on “add-on”after you choose the haircut as Basic. Also if your dog has itchy skin from yeast or seasonal bacteria issues, please mention it to me. On top of luxurious shampoo line, I have 2% Chlorhexidine shampoo as well.
