I am so incredibly proud of this horse ❤️❤️

Preacher has been with me for 2.5 months and today I was finally able to get on him…

When Preacher arrived he was only lightly handled (only really comfortable having his neck/shoulders touched), not foot broke and the most reactive c**t I have ever personally worked with. Pair all that with an underlying fear of humans and extreme girth area sensitivity and off to the rodeo we should have gone.

Instead, this horse showed up every single session, trying so hard to accept all the new realities that were being thrown at him… having his body handled everywhere with the flag, ropes and my hand, groundwork, getting a saddle on, being cinched up, finding comfort while wearing a cinch and back cinch, mount prep, supporting my full weight and finally, today, his first FULL MOUNT!! He really struggled to accept every step, but he just kept trying and trying it was truly inspiring to watch.

In this video he looks calm and cool… why? Because Preacher has tried so hard to be a good boy and work with me despite his fear that today he is a completely different horse.

Preacher worked so hard to figure out every step of the program, and while it has taken a lot of extra time I am so proud of him. I have never seen such a scared horse want so badly to be a good boy.

Shout out to his owners for being so kind and considerate of him and allowing him extra time to find his footing.

I am so excited for the next steps with this guy, I feel like he’s broken through his ceiling and it’s only up for him from here! ❤️

Little wild child update…

Olive is well on her way to being halterbroke, she’s responding well to pressure and making positive steps forward mentality wise! 🩷

Currently working on hand walking / handling outside of the working corral, graduating to tying in larger, more open areas and starting the foot breaking process.

And today I finally dealt with her mane disaster… hopefully it’ll grow back nice lol 😅😅

She is still very fearful but we are chipping away at that, she has shown that she is quite intelligent and very capable of retaining information so onwards and upwards for little Olive! 🩷

Such a fun day yesterday @ Mesa Butte for our
⛰️⛰️⛰️“baby pony mountain day”! ⛰️⛰️⛰️

Was such a treat to take the babies for their first ever mountain trip with the intent of basing the day completely around them!

I took Duckie, who is boasting 2.5 months under saddle, Naomi brought the adorable Mr. Folger and we were joined by Rita and her boy Flirt as well as Sunny and her momma Hélène!! ❤️

We covered around 13kms with a mix of riding and hand walking to keep things reasonable, everyone learned how to cross creeks (except Flirt who is already a pro at that), handled crazy wind and completed two big climbs! Horses hauled, ate and drank like pros which is always so nice to see…

And of course we brought the cat along 😆🐱

Definitely hoping to recreate a ride like this next year… enjoy some photos from our day! 📸❤️

Some cool news….

The donkey is back!!! ❤️❤️

Marcus spent the last few months back at home enjoying some trail riding with his owner/family. He has returned to us for the winter to help me out with some of the c**ts and continue working on his work ons!

Looking forward to having him around for the winter… he’s already earning his keep helping me out with Preacher!

Naomi and I had a very fun evening with our project ponies! ❤️❤️

We hauled in to the Alhambra XC course to ride with our friend and her horse Flyer!
(Some of you may remember him 😉)

This was a very “weird” day for these two as neither has even seen a jump before, but such an excellent opportunity for some hauling, riding off property and new situation exposure.

Folger did amazing, cantering around the course like the fancy little fella he is and jumping over, up and down quite a few obstacles for his favorite person in the world, Naomi! ❤️❤️

My only goal for Duckie was to just ride her around (as she only has two months under saddle) but after a bit of initial overwhelm she really stepped up, trotted/cantered around nicely and was keen to try some ditches and banks… she was scared to try to jump but finished off the session with a couple successful hops! ❤️❤️

Olive’s very first full tie session from Friday!

I like to introduce tying alongside halter breaking as the two share a lot of similar components… and it is an absolutely essential skill!

It is key to introduce proper pressure response steps in succession before this one and even here she has the aid of a breakaway and limited space.

All that aside, what an excellent job she did!
Calm and thoughtful ❤️

Olive is still devastatingly nervous of people in open spaces but is trying very hard to develop a new thought pattern… her people friendly companion has certainly helped as well… good horses can be excellent trainers!

2 days at Hummingbird with Tipsy, Toby, my mom, sister, one kitty and nine dogs… but who’s counting! 🤪

First trim day for all 3 of the baby boys!

Well a rough trim… on their front feet 😆😆

But hinds will soon be done and then I can hand over this job to my awesome farrier and look forward to not doing this again for awhile! 🤣

All 3 boys have made excellent progress with their foot breaking and I’m happy to see them becoming good, reliable little babies. ❤️❤️

Apparently I can’t make it long without bringing home some sort of wild creature…. 😆

🧡🧡 Meet Olive, my winter project 🧡🧡

Info on this girl is limited, she is apparently a 4yo grade Peruvian Paso but hoping to confirm those things / get more info soon! She is fearful, evasive and yet to have any kind of handling.

What I have seen over our first few days:

- this horse is extremely anxious with limited self confidence and no ability to soothe herself

- this horse has become skilled at avoiding humans while existing in close proximity to them

- this horse has been deeply dreading what will happen when a human finally gets ahold of her

- this horse has likely failed out of (or outsmarted 🤔) multiple attempts to get her handled

That is no way to exist in the human world, and likely the driving cause of her anxiety… I have seen a tiny glimmer of consideration that maybe things don’t have to be the way they have always been so I’m very hopeful that we can change her mind!

Let’s see what we can do for her. ❤️
