Long weekends are all about good food, family, and making memories together. 🐾❤️ But with BBQs, busy gatherings, and plenty of tempting smells around, it’s important to keep your pets safe and comfortable.

Keep them away from hot grills, skewers, bones, and foods that can be harmful to pets. If the gathering gets overwhelming, give your pet a quiet, secure space to relax away from the crowd.

A few simple precautions can help make your Labour Day weekend happy, safe, and stress-free for everyone. 🇨🇦🐶

Pets are experts at hiding pain, which is why subtle changes in their behaviour can be easy to miss. 🐾

If your pet is less active, reluctant to jump or climb, sleeping more, or acting differently than usual, it may be worth taking a closer look. Early attention can help identify discomfort and get your pet the care they need.

Meet Tobi & Rue! 🐾💙
Our staff's pups recently stopped by Abby Veterinary Hospital & Emergency to be our very special volunteers while our team trained on our new IDEXX machines.

They were absolute stars and helped our team get hands-on practice with our new technology so we can continue providing efficient, high quality care for the pets who visit us. 🐶🩺

A big thank you to Tobi and Rue for being such good patients! 🥰

Give Tobi & Rue some love in the comments! 🐾❤️

🌲 One last summer adventure? Before you head home, give your pet a quick head-to-tail check. 🐾

After hiking, camping, or spending time outdoors, look for ticks, cuts or sore paws, foxtails or burrs in the fur, and unusual tiredness or limping. Catching small issues early can help prevent bigger problems later.

Planning one final summer outing?
Save this checklist and contact Abby Veterinary Hospital & Emergency if anything doesn’t seem right after your adventure.

Late-summer storms can be stressful for pets, especially those who are sensitive to thunder, lightning, or sudden changes in weather. ⛈️🐾

Creating a quiet, comfortable space before a storm arrives can help your pet feel safer. Keep familiar bedding and toys nearby, close windows and curtains, and offer calm reassurance throughout the storm.

If your pet experiences severe storm anxiety or you’re concerned about their behaviour, contact Abby Veterinary Hospital & Emergency for support.
