While we don’t often pair our Schnauzer moms with more than one male, we decided to test our Wheaten stud, Jenga, with Rosey expecting he likely wouldn’t be fully “functional” yet given his age ( 8 months at the time)
So in order to guarantee a litter the best we could, in case Jenga wasn’t up to the task, we also paired Rosey with Axel who has been reliable producing litters of healthy puppies.
🐾 Now here’s where it gets interesting!
When Rosey delivered 5 healthy beautiful puppies we were able to confidently identify the parentage of 4/5 puppies!
How?
Schnauzer color genetics! 🧬
By using hints from their coat and nose colour along side our knowledge of genetics we are able to eliminate one father and prove the other for 4 out of 5 puppies!
For those of you interested in who belongs to who or just want to learn a bit more about the genetics behind colour for this litter, we have made a more in depth blog post and video explaining it all!
Let me know if you want the link to the video and post explaining it all!
Can you guess who is the dad to 4 out of 5 of these puppies?
