POV: Nova 🐾
Today was a big day for me… and honestly, I found it very scary. 😅
I was referred to HEELIX Veterinary Referral Centre for further examination of the stubborn swelling between my toes. Luckily, the team there was incredibly patient, gentle and kind with me. They had plenty of time set aside, nothing felt rushed, and that made such a difference for this nervous little lady. ❤️
And finally, we seem to have found the reason why my paw keeps flaring up.
The ultrasound showed two tiny foreign objects between my toes, with inflammation around them. The X-ray fortunately showed no abnormalities in the bones.
The specialists at HEELIX recommend surgical exploration and removal of the foreign material, as it is most likely what keeps causing the swelling and irritation to return.
They also noticed something unrelated during the examination: my adrenal glands are on the smaller side. This doesn’t mean there is definitely anything wrong, but they advised further follow-up and, ideally, an ACTH stimulation test to rule out Addison’s disease.
Their findings and recommendations will now be passed on to my regular veterinarian, who knows me well and will take over the next steps. They will continue to follow me closely and will most likely perform the procedure to remove those two little troublemakers from my paw. 🐾
So yes… I’m still a little nervous about what comes next. But after months of that annoying swelling coming and going, it feels good to finally have a clearer answer.
