General Guidelines of Vaccination for Poultry :
• Only vaccinate healthy birds.
• Clean water/feed equipment before use.
• Keep vaccines cold (2–8°C), never frozen.
• Avoid antibiotics/Antiviral medicine for 2 days before and after Vaccination unless advised.
• Always follow manufacturer’s instructions for each vaccine.
✅ Live Vaccines (e.g., for Newcastle, IB, IBD)
These stimulate a fast immune response. Administered through:
1. Drinking Water Method
• Withdraw water for 1–2 hours before.
• Use cool, clean, chlorine-free water.
• Add skimmed milk powder (2g/L) to protect the vaccine.
• Dissolve the vaccine and mix well.
• Distribute quickly and ensure all birds drink within 2 hours.
2. Spray Method
• Used for respiratory diseases (IB, ND).
• Mix vaccine in distilled water.
• Use a coarse sprayer, not mist.
• Spray uniformly over the birds in a closed room.
• Avoid strong light or wind during spraying.
3. Eye/Nose Drop
• One drop in one eye or nostril using dropper.
• Hold the bird gently, ensure full dose given.
✅ Killed/Inactivated Vaccines (e.g., for AI, ND-Killed, Salmonella)
Given via injection and need booster doses.
1. Subcutaneous (under the skin):
• Usually at the back of the neck (in chicks).
• Use sterile syringe & needle (usually 18–20 gauge).
• Inject recommended dose per bird (e.g., 0.5 ml).
2. Intramuscular (into the muscle):
• Common site: breast muscle.
• Proper needle size and depth to avoid injury.
• Change needle often to prevent contamination.
🔁 Vaccination Schedule Tip:
• Start with live vaccines in early life (1st week).
• Follow with boosters and killed vaccines later (Depending on type).
• Always record the vaccination date, type, and batch number.
