🐱 Cats are experts at hiding pain.

By the time the signs become obvious, they may already be quite uncomfortable. Knowing what to look for can help you get them the care they need sooner 💙

🚩 Signs your cat may be in pain:
• Changes in grooming habits (over-grooming or a scruffy coat)
• Reduced appetite or changes in drinking habits
• Reluctance to jump, climb, or move normally
• Hiding more than usual or avoiding interaction
• Changes in behaviour, including irritability or aggression
• Excessive vocalising, unusual quietness, or tense facial expressions
• Changes in litter tray habits or toileting posture
• Difficulty breathing, swollen limbs, or pale/abnormal gums

⚠️ If you notice any of these signs, don't wait. Pain can be linked to a wide range of medical conditions and early treatment can make a significant difference.

❌ Never give human pain medications to cats, as many are toxic and can be life-threatening.

🐌 Snail bait is a common household product, but it can be extremely dangerous for dogs and cats.

Our emergency teams regularly treat pets that have eaten snail bait. Even a small amount can cause severe illness, with symptoms appearing in as little as 30 minutes.

⚠️ Signs of snail bait poisoning may include:
• Tremors or twitching
• Seizures
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Excessive drooling
• Panting or rapid breathing
• Restlessness or collapse

It's also important to know that some products labelled "pet safe" can still make pets very sick.

If you think your pet has eaten snail bait, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact an emergency vet immediately.

✅ Bring the packaging if possible
✅ Prevent any further access to the bait
✅ Keep your pet calm

Dogs and cats are naturally curious, which can put them at risk when they come across a snake while exploring the backyard, bushland or local parks.

Help reduce the risk by keeping pets away from:
🌿 Long grass and dense vegetation
💧 Creeks, dams and other water sources
🏠 Under sheds, decks and other sheltered spaces

⚠️ If you think your pet has been bitten by a snake, keep them as calm and still as possible and seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Prompt treatment can make a significant difference.

How time flies when you’re having fun! 💙

Our Osborne Park hospital officially opened its doors last week, and what an incredible first week it has been.

From celebrating this milestone with a ceremonial ribbon cutting ✂️🎀 to welcoming our very first patients and their families through the doors, it’s already been a week filled with special moments and wonderful memories.

A huge thank you to our incredible team, clients, referring veterinary community and everyone who has supported us on this journey. We are so excited to begin this next chapter and continue being here for Perth pets and their families when they need us most. 🐾

Many vets and dog trainers recommend thinking twice before using a retractable lead.

While they give dogs more room to roam, they can also increase the risk of injuries to both pets and owners. We've seen cases involving rope burns, cuts and injuries caused by sudden stops or entanglement.

They can also make it harder to maintain control around roads, other dogs, wildlife or busy public spaces.

💡 For most walks, a standard fixed-length lead offers better control, keeps your dog closer in unpredictable situations and can help make outings safer for everyone.

A little more control on the lead can go a long way toward preventing accidents.
