๐ŸŒŸ Nori ๐ŸŒŸ

This beautiful girl recently visited our team after her owners noticed she had been chewing on some lily leaves from a bouquet they had received.
Thankfully, Nori's owners acted quickly and brought her straight in for assessment and treatment. Their prompt action made all the difference.
Nori received supportive care, including IV fluid therapy and repeat blood tests to closely monitor her kidney function. As lilies are extremely toxic to cats and can cause severe kidney damage, early veterinary intervention is essential.
We're very happy to report that Nori responded wonderfully to treatment and has continued to do well at home with her loving family. โค๏ธ

โš ๏ธ Did you know? Lilies are one of the most dangerous plants for cats. โš ๏ธ
Even a small amount of exposure can be life-threatening. Cats can become poisoned by:
๐ŸŒธ Chewing the leaves, petals, or stems
๐ŸŒธ Drinking water from a vase containing lilies
๐ŸŒธ Grooming pollen from their fur

Signs of lily toxicity can include vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, increased thirst, and, in severe cases, kidney failure.
If you suspect your cat has come into contact with a lily, don't wait for symptoms to develop. Contact your veterinarian immediately, as early treatment offers the best chance of a positive outcome.

A big well done to Nori's owners for recognising the risk and acting so quickly. We couldn't be happier to see this sweet girl back where she belongs, safe at home. ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Bee Stings ๐ŸŒŸ

Just like us, dogs can get stung by bees - often on the paw or face when theyโ€™re playing outside. ๐Ÿ
Most stings cause mild swelling and discomfort, but some dogs can have serious allergic reactions that need urgent care.

๐Ÿšจ Watch for signs of an allergic reaction:
๐Ÿ”นSudden swelling, especially around the face or muzzle
๐Ÿ”นHives or red, itchy skin
๐Ÿ”นVomiting or diarrhoea
๐Ÿ”นDifficulty breathing
๐Ÿ”นCollapse

๐Ÿถ What to do if your dog is stung:
๐Ÿ”นStay calm and keep your dog still to reduce the spread of venom.
๐Ÿ”นRemove the stinger if you can see it (scrape it out with a credit card - donโ€™t squeeze!)
๐Ÿ”นApply a cold compress to the area to reduce swelling.
๐Ÿ”นCall your vet, or if after-hours, call us for further advice.

๐Ÿ”ด Seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of an allergic reaction.
Bee stings can escalate quickly - when in doubt, seek help. We're here 24/7 if you need us! ๐Ÿšจ

๐ŸŒŸ Dr Sue and the Sizzle of Sausages! ๐ŸŒญ๐ŸŒŸ

Dr Sue, Vet Nurse Nicole, and the team certainly had their hands full with this adorable dachshund crew recently!
Arlo and Walter were in safe hands while receiving the care they needed, and we couldn't help but notice that fellow sausage dogs Dimitri and Alexander weren't far away. After their own recent adventures, they seemed more than ready to provide some much-needed peer support and moral encouragement! ๐Ÿ’–

Thankfully, all four little sausages are on the road to recovery, proving that while dachshunds may be small in stature, they certainly know how to keep their humans and veterinary teams on their toes.

We're always grateful to be trusted with the care of these wonderful patients and to share a few tail-wagging moments along the way. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŒŸ Tools That Save Lives - The Ventilator ๐ŸŒŸ

Did you know ventilators aren't just used in human hospitals? They're an important tool in veterinary medicine too. ๐Ÿพ

During some surgical procedures, general anaesthesia can affect a patient's ability to breathe effectively. A ventilator can provide mechanical breaths, helping support their breathing while our veterinary team closely monitors their oxygen levels, carbon dioxide and other vital signs.
Ventilators can also play an important role in emergency and critical care, supporting patients who are struggling to breathe because of serious illness, injury or other life-threatening conditions.

It's one of many sophisticated tools our emergency veterinary team can use when a pet needs intensive support. Because when every breath matters, the right equipment can make all the difference. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Nigel ๐ŸŒŸ

This handsome one-year-old Lop rabbit recently spent the night with our Yokine team after being diagnosed with a liver lobe torsion by his primary care veterinarians earlier that day. ๐Ÿฐ

While it's never easy seeing a beloved pet unwell, Nigel took everything in his stride and was the perfect patient during his overnight stay. Our team provided supportive therapy and close monitoring to help keep him comfortable before he returned to the wonderful team at Unusual Pet Vets the following morning for ongoing treatment.

Despite his health scare, Nigel's sweet personality shone through, and he quickly won the hearts of everyone who cared for him. ๐Ÿฅฐ
We're delighted to share that Nigel has made a fantastic recovery and is now back at home doing what he does best, being his cheeky, lovable self! His owners are absolutely thrilled to have him feeling happy and healthy again. ๐Ÿ’ž

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒˆ Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒŸ

Today, we remember the pets who may no longer be by our side, but will always have a place in our hearts. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’–

The dogs who greeted us at the door.
The cats who curled up beside us.
The rabbits, birds and other beloved companions who filled our homes with love, laughter and memories.

For many pet parents, the loss of a much-loved companion is one of the hardest experiences we will ever face. And while the pain may soften with time, the love never disappears.

At Perth Vet Emergency, we know that saying goodbye to a pet can be incredibly difficult. We are honoured to support families through those precious final moments with compassion, dignity and care.

Today, take a moment to remember the special friend you've lost. Look at a favourite photo, share a treasured memory or simply say their name.

Who are you remembering today? ๐ŸŒˆโค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
