🧁 Cupcake Day is Coming - Let's Support Our Local Animals! 🐾

Every cupcake, slice, biscuit and muffin sold (or eaten) can go straight towards supporting people and pets here in the Illawarra.

We're proud to be part of the RSPCA NSW Member and Volunteer Group network, supporting local communities across NSW.

Together, in FY2025–26, our network achieved some incredible outcomes, and we're proud that our local community programs here in the Illawarra contributed to these results.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the year. We couldn't do it without you!

Toy Donations Needed! 🐾

The Illawarra Shelter is looking for new hard and soft pet toys to help keep the animals in our care happy and enriched. Dogs, cats, birds and pocket pets all appreciate new toys!

Please ensure soft toys don't have plastic eyes, buttons or other small parts.

Not sure what to donate? Give us a call on (02) 4271 3410.

Donations can be dropped off at reception Tuesday–Sunday, 10 am–3 pm.

Good welfare (or wellbeing) means your pet is living a good life where they have

• Enough good food and clean water
• A safe, kind home where they feel secure
• Good health (free from pain, injury, or illness)
• Positive, gentle interactions with people and other animals
• Opportunities to do the things that are important to their species

As caregivers, our role is to understand what our pets need to feel safe, settled and supported. Remembering every animal is an individual with their own likes and dislikes

WINTER IS HERE ❄️🥶

Don’t let their fur coats fool you, pets get cold, too! To help keep them warm, happy, and healthy this season, keep these essential winter safety tips in mind:

• Make sure their shelter is Warm (plenty of blankets or dry straw), Waterproof (elevated and dry), and Windproof (secure from cold drafts) 🏡

• Too cold for a walk? Try indoor hide-and-seek, trick training, or food-dispensing toys to keep them active and engaged! 🎾

• Cold weather can make conditions like osteoarthritis worse. If your senior pet seems stiff or is hiding more than usual, it might be time for a vet visit 🩺

• Always keep your pet and their bedding at least one metre away from heaters and fireplaces to prevent burns 🔥

• Keep toxic winter chemicals well out of reach, and never leave your pet in a cold car (it acts just like a refrigerator!) 🚗

• Stray and outdoor cats love to hide under car hoods for warmth. Always give your hood a quick tap before starting the engine! 🐈

And as always, for any health issues or concerns, visit your local vet ❤️
