🎯 How Good Is Your Dog's Aim?

Usually better than you think!

When playing tug, many owners worry about getting their hands bitten and start moving the toy at the last second.

Trust your dog's aim.

A dog that's been taught to value the tug knows exactly what they're targeting. Give them a clear target and let them commit.

Trust the dog. Trust the training.

Good afternoon, Townsville!

Just a quick update regarding our pricing and services.

We have recently updated our price list, which can now be found on our website:

For current clients already enrolled in training programs, there will be no changes to the cost of your sessions, including Behaviour Modification, Pack Adventure, and Walk & Train clients.

For all new and waitlisted clients, the updated pricing will apply.

To our waitlisted clients, thank you for your patience. We are currently experiencing extremely high demand for our services and apologise for the current wait times.

If you are available between 9:00am and 2:00pm, Monday to Friday, please let us know, as we have greater availability during these hours. As a family-run business, our out-of-hours appointments are limited due to family commitments.

Our current out-of-hours training availability is:
📅 Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:00pm
📅 Saturday mornings from 9:00am

With most training programs running for 4–6 sessions, these limited after-hours appointments are contributing significantly to our current wait times.

Walk & Train and Pack Adventure clients, please note that with the upcoming school holidays, these services will pause for two weeks from **27 June to 12 July**. Behaviour Modification sessions will continue to operate as usual during this period.

We appreciate everyone's patience and continued support and look forward to helping you and your dogs achieve your training goals.

Life is busy!!!! ⚡🐕

Like most of you, I get home after dark most days — late clients, kids’ sport three nights per week — I’m simply time poor.

This is where detection training has become my saving grace. 👌

Just 10 minutes of this kind of training can be more beneficial for your dog than a 45–60 minute walk.

If you have a high-energy, motivated dog with strong food or toy drive, this is the game for you. 🎯🐾

We will be launching our Detection Dog Foundation Program in the new financial year, where we will teach you how to train your dog in odour detection.

Watch this space!!! 👀🔥

In a world where you can be anything…
be the dog that can be off leash 👀

Most owners want this.
Beach walks. Bush walks. Freedom.

But here’s the truth 👇
No control = no freedom.

If you don’t trust your dog…
they’re not ready.

The good news?
Most dogs CAN achieve off-leash control—
with the right structure and training.

At North QLD K9 Academy, this is what we do.

Follow for real training, real results, and no shortcuts.

🚨 Premium off-leash program dropping soon
(yes—even for reactive dogs)

Comment “CONTROL” if this is your goal 👇

If you want an off-leash dog, a reliable recall isn’t optional — it’s essential.

This is a progression reel from one of my Walk & Train clients, showing how her recall is developing over time.

A good recall doesn’t need to be flashy or “perfect” — it needs to be consistent and usable in the real world.

What we’re building here:
• Clear understanding of “come”
• Speed and commitment back to handler
• A stationary finish so the dog can be safely managed when they return

That last part is often overlooked — but it’s what makes recall practical, not just impressive.

Training isn’t linear, and it won’t always look clean. Progress comes from repetition, clarity, and consistency — not chasing perfection.

Focus on building a recall that works when it matters, not one that just looks good on camera.

In a world where you can be anything… be an off-leash dog 🐕✨

Dogs aren’t meant to just walk calmly beside you on a lead, ignoring every distraction, other dogs, scooters, bikes, etc. 🚲🐾
They need an outlet that satisfies their natural urge to explore and gives them the freedom they crave 🌿

Train a reliable recall so your dog can experience real freedom—without the stress of them running off or getting into trouble 🧠🐶

Teaching your dog detection training isn’t as complicated as you might think.

This is a quick clip of a client’s dog, Lagatha, learning detection work during my Detection Dog Thursday sessions — and she’s doing pretty well for a dog that’s only had 4 sessions over 4 weeks.

My blueprint for introducing odour is simple:

• Build motivation (toy or food drive)
• Use that motivation to create a clear communication system (marker training)
• Develop an odour-leading game
• Once the dog recognises odour, start hiding it around the house

Alongside this, I run short “find it” games with food or a toy to build search behaviour and engagement.

Keep it simple, keep it consistent — that’s where the results come from.

Got a dog that’s scared of loud noises or struggles at the vets?

It’s not all doom and gloom — there are practical methods we can use to work through it.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing short clips showing how to use the dopamine box to counter-condition noise and touch sensitivity. Follow along and apply it to your own dog.

This clip is from a previous development dog we trained for a narcotics detection role. We’ll also be using our current development dog, Ben, to show how to build this from scratch.
