Update on my Woolies "grow bags". One plant is winning the race! Sadly, the rest rotted. Mark at Self Sufficient Me gave me the inspiration to try these out. The warm temps up here in Townsville are a little challenging, but I hope these grow a few spuds for us! πŸ₯”

I decided to see how well my ginger grew 🫚

The harvest wasn't huge, but that's all part of the learning process. I'm glad I planted some gifted ginger a week ago, so the next crop is already underway.

After harvesting, the old
potting mix went straight into the compost. Nothing goes to waste in the garden β™»οΈπŸŒΏ

I'm putting up the tomato trellis this afternoon πŸ…πŸŒ±

The tomatoes are growing well, thanks to my plant collars I added when they were young. It's now time to get their support system in place before they become unmanageable.

I attached the frame to the star pickets in the garden bed and added guide strings to help the plants reach the trellis. They're not quite tall enough yet, but they should be climbing in no time.

Hopefully this setup leads to plenty of tomatoes over the coming months πŸ€žπŸ…

Rosella jam day πŸŒΊπŸ“

After harvesting the rosella, it was time to turn it into one of my favourite homemade treats.

I used the seed pods to make natural pectin, added fresh lemon juice and sugar, then cooked it down before bottling it into sterilised jars.

The best part? Fresh rosella jam on toast straight afterwards πŸ˜‹πŸž

There's something special about turning food from the garden into something you can enjoy months later.

Safety first! 🌿 We love our breadfruit tree, but it’s gotten far too big for us to harvest fruit safely. We’re giving it a major trim this afternoon to get it back down to a reachable height. Have you ever had to prune a massive fruit tree? Let me know your tips! πŸžπŸˆπŸ‘‡

Tucking a brand new ginger crop into the soil today! 🫚🌱 This fresh ginger was kindly gifted by a friend, kicking off the next round of homegrown goodness. I just love the continuous cycle of growing your own food. πŸ’š

A surprise in the garden today πŸ₯”πŸŒ±

I'd pretty much given up on these potatoes. They'd been in the ground for weeks with no sign of life, and I was convinced they weren't going to sprout.

Then today I spotted the first shoots pushing through the soil! πŸ˜„

Just another reminder that gardening often rewards patience.

One of my favourite ways to water the garden πŸ’§πŸŒ±

Today I filled the watering can from the pond waterfall. The pond water contains nutrients from the fish, so it doubles as a gentle fertiliser for the plants.

The curry tree also does a great job of helping shade the pond during the day 🌳🐟

Curiosity got the better of me today πŸ‘€πŸ«š

I decided to carefully dig around the base of my ginger plant to see how it was progressing underground.

There's always something exciting about uncovering food you've grown yourself, even if it's just a small glimpse of what's developing beneath the soil 🌿
