Why should you look to buy a puppy with pedigree papers if you’re just wanting a pet and don’t intend to show your pup?
And should you be asking if the puppy would be cheaper without those papers?
As ANKC registered breeders, we are required to provide pedigree papers with every puppy we sell — it’s not an optional extra, but a core part of our responsibility as ethical breeders. The pedigree certificate is much more than “just a piece of paper” — it’s a verified record of your puppy’s lineage, health-tested ancestry, and breed integrity.
We invest significant time, resources, and dedication into every litter — from careful selection of breeding pairs based on health, temperament, and conformation, through to raising and socialising puppies in a loving, enriched environment. This includes health screening, quality nutrition, early socialisation, and ongoing support to our puppy families. The price of a puppy reflects the care and commitment that goes into producing well-adjusted, healthy companions that meet breed standards — not simply whether or not a certificate is issued.
Offering a puppy at a reduced price without papers would not only go against ANKC regulations but would also undermine the purpose and value of ethical, responsible breeding. We believe every puppy deserves to be backed by that integrity.
The money you invest in your puppy’s purchase is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to that pup as part of your family. Make sure you’re investing wisely as daily food and regular medical costs are the same for every dog no matter its start in life. And in fact the pup without papers or health checks could end up costing you more in the long run.
As ANKC breeders we are happy to answer any further questions you may have about what’s included or how we raise our puppies — transparency and education are very important.
