Even though most people think of a rattlesnake’s habitat as being out on the trails where they’re encountered by people, that’s really not their home! Rattlesnakes live in small burrows and deep rock piles where they can regulate their body temperature and stay sheltered from predators, and only usually come out to hunt, bask, or mate.

It was all going so well with this gorgeous Brown Tree Snake… and then she decided to take a chomp on me 🤣 these guys are mildly venomous rear-fanged colubrids, and although some people have experienced sickness and symptoms from a significant envenomation, this one didn’t bite and chew in order to inject any venom into me and I was just fine. Perks of the job! 😂

The Spotted Python (Antaresia maculosa) is one of the shortest species of python, growing only to around 1-1.4 meters, and is a popular Aussie pet because of its manageable size and typically docile nature. This gorgeous adult male lived up to his name and was as calm as a snake could be when and I moved him off a mountain road in Cairns.

How gorgeous is this little juvenile Smooth Green Snake? 😍 these guys are a pretty rare and elusive snake in Boulder County, although they’re more widespread in other areas of the U.S., and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one deep in the Rocky Mountains.

The second most venomous snake in the world, the Eastern Brown Snake (or Common Brown Snake), is one of the most iconic Australian snakes. Thanks to its very dramatic and defensive temperament, its venom toxicity, and its widespread distribution in Eastern Australia, this species had developed a strong reputation and is responsible for the most deaths by snakebite in the country (which is only about 3 a year total!). This individual was only a juvenile, but certainly had an adult attitude 😮‍💨 what a snake!

The Broad-headed snake is an endangered, highly venomous, small elapid native only to the unique sandstone around the Sydney Basin in Australia. I was extremely lucky to get a good look at this spectacular and rare snake 😍 how beautiful is it?
