Today, we celebrate our true heroes — the incredible pets who help save lives every single day.
At North Shore Veterinary Hospital, we are so proud of our Blood Donor Program and the amazing donors like Scout, whose quiet bravery and generosity make life-saving care possible for pets in need. 🐾❤️
Blood transfusions are critical in emergencies — from trauma and surgery to serious illness, one donation can help save multiple lives.
🐶 Could your pet be a hero too?
We’re always looking for new donors to join our program.
Ideal blood donors are pets who:
• Are aged between 1–8 years
• Are healthy, calm, and friendly
• Are fully vaccinated and up to date with parasite prevention
• Have never received a blood transfusion

Every donor is carefully screened to ensure the process is safe and comfortable — and of course, rewarded with plenty of treats, cuddles, and appreciation. 🦴✨

🐾 Meet Smudge! 🐾
Smudge first visited our GP team at North Shore Veterinary Hospital after his owner noticed he was weak in his hind legs, tired, and off his food.
On examination, he had a high fever and a significantly enlarged lymph node. Blood tests showed severe inflammation, and he was admitted for further investigation.
Smudge was referred to our Internal Medicine team to see Dr Adam Swallow, where advanced diagnostics—including CT and joint sampling—confirmed an immune-mediated joint condition, likely triggered by an infection. He was also diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia.
After around a week in hospital receiving intensive care and treatment, Smudge made a steady recovery thanks to the close collaboration between our GP and Internal Medicine teams. ❤️
At his recent recheck, Smudge returned with his emotional support superstar sister, Spice—and we’re so pleased to see he’s doing so well and recovering exactly as hoped!
👏 Well done, Smudge! We’re so proud of you.
