Greyhounds As Pets Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) is a not for profit initiative coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW They don't need a big yard (or a yard at all).

Greyhounds make fantastic pets for families, working people and the elderly. Greyhounds are: Gentle, Affectionate, Clean, Quiet, Good with other dogs (some also love cats), LOW maintenance and Long lived. They will walk well on a lead and require only 15-20 minutes exercise 1-2 times daily (just like a normal pooch). They rarely shed and have a short coat.

Last weekend, our Northern Rivers community came together for the Great Global Greyhound Walk, bringing plenty of paws, people and smiles to the Rail Trail.

A morning of connection, community and giving our long-legged locals a very good excuse to take over the trail.

🐾 Make it a family day out at Gala Day for Dogs in Tamworth! 🐾

Come and say hello to Josie, a happy young greyhound who’s just shy of two years old. She loves a backyard game or a neighbourhood walk, followed by a cosy spot beside the family. 💛

Josie is gentle and affectionate with children, enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes and is comfortable around cats too. Could she be your family’s new best friend?

Visit the GAP NSW stall to give Josie a cuddle, meet other greyhounds looking for homes and chat with Samantha and the team about their personalities, care needs and adoption. 🐕💛

There’ll be something for the whole family to enjoy, including:

🐾 Pet-related market stalls
🐾 Live entertainment and demonstrations
🐾 Dog-friendly competitions and prizes
🐾 An agility course for dogs to try
🐾 Expert advice from local trainers and behaviourists
🐾 A jumping castle and family activities
🐾 A BBQ fundraiser and toy drive supporting local animals

Spring has truly sprung, with 19 beautiful greyhounds finding their forever homes while another 5 headed off to loving foster homes. 🏡

A huge thank you to our volunteers and everyone who came along, opened their hearts, adopted and helped make each event so memorable. 💙
