In recent weeks eight pigeons have been rescued after being targeted by toxic pest control chemicals around Labrador and Southport. The latest survivor “ Sleeping Beauty “ arrived on Saturday. It is heartbreaking to see the suffering inflicted on these defenseless birds. For thousands of years, pigeons were our domesticated companions and wartime heroes. Discarded when no longer useful,they are now paying the price for a human- made problem that is not their fault. Nursing a poisoned bird is soul destroying, but love is winning, all 8 birds survived and Sleeping Beauty is safely on the mend. Pigeons are beautiful, intelligent beings that deserve so much better than urban cruelty. ❤️ Thank you Liz Miller and everyone involved for bringen this Beauty to me for treatment.
Saving one pigeon will not change the world, but it will change the world for that one pigeon ❤️

A pigeon that has been poisoned,her first 24 hours were very critical and the struggle keeping her alive was tough and the worst I have ever seen. But she made a full recovery. Sadly there are so many better and humane options and poisoning these beautiful birds is not one of them 😢

Hair and Braid entanglement in pigeons, is a painful problem I see more and more off. Discarded human hair, thread and dental floss wraps tightly around a pigeon‘s toes and legs. As the bird moves,the strand tightens and cuts off circulation and often leading to severe infections and permanent toe loss and disfigurement. A massive thanks to Kerri who catches these Pigeons and gets them to me for treatment. George, Nina and Pancho made full recoveries

Esme is a pigeon that survived a pellet gun shoot wound and is also blind in one eye. She has been living with us for a few years and loves being indoors ❤️

Kojak took many weeks to recover from a severe head wound that was left for 24 hours before I got the call and he finally received the help he should have received so much earlier, a wound like this needs pain relief and treatment asap, the risk of infection is very high. Kojak was a real good patient and made a full recovery.

Dotti was a adult spotted Dove that came into care with a severe open wound and she had lost a lot of blood, fast treatment and pain relief was crucial. They are very delicate little creatures but she pulled through and made a full recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Pigeon and Dove Rescue Gold Coast is looking for passionate volunteers who would like to help and learn to care for sick and injured pigeons, anyone who is interested please send me a message. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. It would be great to have a little team of pigeon carers on the Gold Coast. 🙏🏻☺️
