🤎Did you know pets can get diabetes too?

It's more common than most people think — 1 in 100 dogs and 1 in 200 cats will develop diabetes in their lifetime:

Signs your pet might have diabetes:
- Drinking more water than usual
- Urinating more frequently
- Increased appetite but losing weight
- Lethargy or weakness
- Cloudy eyes (dogs especially)

The good news?
With the right management, diabetic pets can live happy, normal lives!

Managing diabetes in pets involves daily insulin injections, regular monitoring and strict feeding schedules — which can feel really overwhelming at first.

This is where I can help!
As a qualified Veterinary Nurse I offer home visits to help with:
- Insulin injection training and support
- Monitoring your pet's response to treatment
- Glucose curve assistance
- Ongoing nursing support between vet visits
- Helping you feel confident managing your pet's condition at home.

You don't have to figure it out alone. Having a nurse come to your home means less stress for you and your pet!

🤎Why Regular Nail Trims Matter for Dogs & Cats (and How to Make It Less Stressful)

Keeping your pet’s nails at a healthy length is important for comfort, mobility, and long-term joint health. When nails become overgrown, they can alter how weight is distributed through the paws and contribute to strain over time. In severe cases, they may crack, split, or even grow into the paw pad.

Many pets don’t naturally wear their nails down enough, particularly indoor cats, small breeds, and less active dogs, so routine trimming is often still needed.

🐾Why nail trims can be stressful
Nail trims can cause anxiety because paws are sensitive, restraint can feel threatening, and past negative experiences can make pets more reactive over time.

🐾Ways to reduce stress
Low-stress handling techniques can make a significant difference, including:
• Positive reinforcement with treats
• Gradual desensitisation to paw handling
• Short, gentle sessions
• Distraction such as lick mats or food rewards
• A calm, familiar environment

With the right approach, nail trims can become a manageable part of routine care rather than a stressful event.

Your pet called — turns out they'd rather stay home. Good news, I'll come to them! 🐾

Hi I'm Brooke, a qualified vet nurse based in Mapleton Sunshine Coast, and I've just launched Hinterland Home Vet Nurse — professional veterinary nursing care in the comfort of your home, an extension of your pet's veterinary care.

After years of working in clinics I realised that so many pets (and their owners!) would benefit from having a qualified nurse come to them. No stressful car trips, no waiting rooms, just proper clinical nursing care in the place your pet feels most comfortable — home.

I offer a range of services including nail trims, wound care, bandage changes, medication administration, post-surgery checks, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, medicated baths and more — all done at your place, by appointment.

Currently offering 10% off for new clients while I get started. Taking bookings from Thursday 4th of June. Please reach out via txt message or email and I can call you for a chat!
