🚨 When a dog goes missing, it’s completely normal to feel frightened and overwhelmed. But acting quickly and calmly can make a huge difference.
As a certified Dog Trainer, RSPCA Animal Protector, and someone who has supported clients through lost-dog situations, here are the most important steps:
1️⃣ Search immediately - start where the dog was last seen. Don’t chase a frightened dog.
2️⃣ Mark your dog as lost on the NSW Pet Registry:
https://www.petregistry.olg.nsw.gov.au/pets/nsw-pet-registry/owners/lost-pets
3️⃣ Contact local councils, pounds, vets and shelters.
4️⃣ Post in local lost-pet groups with a clear photo, location and contact number.
5️⃣ Put up posters around the area.
6️⃣ Record every sighting — time, exact location and direction of travel.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If the dog is frightened, DO NOT CHASE OR APPROACH. Report the sighting instead. Chasing can cause a scared dog to run even further.
🐾 Share this information. It could help bring a lost dog home. ❤️
