Blueberries are one of the easiest treats to keep on hand for dogs. They're small, low in calories, and many dogs love the crunch when they're frozen.

Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are also fine in small amounts. Raspberries contain a tiny amount of naturally occurring xylitol, so a few at a time is plenty.

For the frozen yogurt idea, check the label carefully. Choose plain, unsweetened yogurt, and make sure it contains no xylitol, which is extremely dangerous for dogs. Some dogs don't tolerate dairy well, so start with a small amount.

Keep in mind that not every berry is safe. Wild berries from gardens and hedges, along with holly and mistletoe berries, can be harmful. If you can't identify a berry, keep it away from your dog.

Some foods from our kitchen can be perfectly fine for dogs in small amounts. Others belong firmly off the menu.

Plain cooked chicken, cooked egg, boneless fish, carrots, pumpkin, apple without seeds, banana and sweet potato can all be occasional additions for many healthy dogs.

Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions, garlic, alcohol, caffeine, raw yeast dough and cooked bones can be dangerous and should be avoided.

One important detail: “safe” doesn’t mean unlimited. Portions still matter, and dogs with allergies, digestive disease or other health conditions may need different advice.

When in doubt, check before you share. 🐶

A tiny dachshund named Valerie vanished during a camping trip on Australia’s Kangaroo Island in November 2023. For an astonishing 529 days, she survived alone among rugged terrain, harsh weather and dangerous wildlife.

After a farmer spotted her nearly 30 miles from where she disappeared, rescuers began tracking her with cameras, food and familiar scents. Valerie was eventually captured safely—and somehow returned weighing almost four pounds more than before. Her incredible journey is a powerful story of survival, resilience and the determination to find the way home.

Pumpy (Pumpernickel) - 9-12 months, male - Kelpie x - Victoria *Adopted*

Meet Pumpernickel aka Pumpy!

If you're looking for a dog who will keep you constantly entertained and enveloped in love then Pumpernickel may just be your perfect match.

This striking young Kelpie cross lad weighs just 15kg, making him a wonderfully petite package of fun. With his beautiful markings and eyes that look like he's wearing perfectly applied eyeliner, Pumpernickel is undeniably handsome—but it's his joyful personality that truly steals hearts.

Pumpernickel is still very much a puppy. He is affectionate, sweet, intelligent, playful, and bursting with enthusiasm for life. He loves people, will spoil you with snuggles, and adores being involved in whatever you are doing. Toys are one of his greatest passions, closely followed by sunbathing, looking out the window watching the world go by, exploring, and finding fun new things to chew on.

As you'd expect from a young working-breed dog, Pumpernickel has plenty of energy and will thrive with an active family committed to ongoing training, enrichment, and socialisation. The good news is that he is food motivated, highly teachable, eager to learn, and responds very well to gentle guidance and correction. He already knows "sit," takes treats gently, walks politely on lead, loves stopping to sniff absolutely everything, and his recall is coming along nicely. He doesn’t bark unnecessarily, and likes to sit back and take things in before becoming involved, especially when meeting dogs for the first time.

Pumpernickel is house trained, confidently uses a doggy door, and sleeps soundly through the night on any available bed (preferably yours, unless he gets too hot).

In foster care he has developed a wonderful friendship with the resident three-year-old Kelpie, enjoying games of chasey, tug, and the classic canine favourite - bitey-face. He is also very respectful of the resident nine-year-old Staffy mix, showing he can adjust his behaviour appropriately depending on the dog he's interacting with. He does not guard food, toys, or other resources, being much more a lover than a fighter.

Like many adolescent dogs, Pumpernickel can become a little mouthy during play with humans, so a home without very young children is recommended.

Pumpernickel would greatly benefit from living with another friendly, playful dog who can continue teaching him the finer points of being a good canine citizen. He genuinely enjoys the company of his familiar canine companions and looks to other dogs for guidance and confidence.

His ideal family will have some experience with working breeds and understand what’s involved in raising a clever, energetic young dog. In return, they'll be rewarded with an incredibly affectionate, entertaining and loyal companion whose cat-like antics, goofy puppy charm, and zest for life will bring endless joy to their home.

As an added bonus full Embark DNA Breed and Health Test results are available to his lucky forever family!

If you're ready to invest time into a young dog with enormous potential, Pumpernickel is ready to change your life!

🐕🎬 DOG LOVERS CAN RELAX: ODIN SURVIVES “HEART OF THE BEAST”

After the trailer for Brad Pitt’s upcoming survival movie “Heart of the Beast” arrived, many dog lovers had one immediate question: Does the dog die?

Director David Ayer has now given viewers the answer: “Don’t worry, the dog lives.”

The film follows retired Special Forces officer James Belmont and his loyal German Shepherd, Odin, after a plane crash leaves them stranded in the Alaskan wilderness.

But Odin isn't simply a sidekick. Ayer describes the relationship at the center of the movie as a love story, with James and Odin repeatedly protecting and rescuing each other.

Even more impressive, Odin is played by Uber, a real mountain-rescue dog from New Zealand. Uber’s three sons also helped perform scenes in the film.

Brad Pitt even called Uber “the star of the film.” 🐾❤️

“Heart of the Beast” arrives in theaters September 25, 2026.

And yes, you can watch knowing one very important spoiler: the dog lives. 🐶
