A horse can be sound and still lack the strength, balance or confidence required to return to full work.

That space between recovery and performance is where structured rehabilitation plays an important role. We gradually rebuild condition, encourage more balanced movement and prepare the horse for the demands waiting at home.

The goal is not simply to complete a rehabilitation program. It is to send each horse home better prepared for the next stage.

Need help planning your horse’s return to work? DM the Peringa Equine team for more information.

👉Compensation can become a habit

When something hurts, horses find another way to move.

That altered pattern may protect an uncomfortable area at first, but it can also place extra strain elsewhere. Even after the original issue has improved, the horse may continue using the compensating movement it has learned.

Structured rehabilitation gives us the opportunity to rebuild strength and encourage better movement gradually. It takes patience, close observation and a program that develops with the horse.

If your horse is struggling to return to its usual way of going, DM us for a chat.

💫Rehabilitation starts with observation

Before we ask a horse to work harder, we take the time to watch.

How are they standing? Are they loading each limb evenly? Is there tension through the back? Does their movement change from one direction to the other?

These small details help us build a clearer picture of what each horse needs. At Peringa Equine, rehabilitation is never a standard program applied to every horse. It is a considered process, shaped by the individual in front of us.

If your horse needs a carefully managed return to work, send us a DM to discuss how we may be able to help.

Slow motion has a way of showing us what the eye can easily miss.

Watch the canter closely.

Where does each hoof land?
How does the limb load and unload?
How much movement travels through the fetlock, knee, hock and stifle?
Is the horse moving evenly from one side to the other?
What happens through the back as the stride comes together?

Every stride asks the body to absorb force, stabilise, balance and then push forward again, all in a matter of seconds.

Sometimes it is worth slowing things down and simply watching 👀

Movement tells us a lot when we give ourselves time to see it.

What if better recovery starts with something you can't see?

BEMER Therapy is designed to support microcirculation, the tiny blood vessels responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

For horses, it can be a valuable addition to a wellness, fitness or rehabilitation programme, supporting muscle relaxation, post-exercise recovery, preparation for work and general wellbeing.

At Peringa Equine, BEMER is one of the tools we can incorporate into an individual programme based on what each horse needs.

Sometimes it's the smallest systems in the body that can play a very important role.

Curious about BEMER? Send us a DM and have a chat.
