𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻… 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵!

Spring is here, and while we’re freshening up our homes and gardens, it’s also a great time to check in on your pet.

Have you noticed your pet:

• Licking or chewing their paws
• Sneezing more than usual
• Developing a red or irritated belly
• Scratching, rubbing or seeming uncomfortable?

These signs can be linked to 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀, but fleas, mites and other parasites can also cause irritation and inflammation.

The tricky part is that ongoing scratching and licking can quickly lead to broken skin, secondary infections and a much more uncomfortable pet.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

If your pet is showing any of these signs, book a check-up with our team so we can work out what’s causing it and help get them comfortable again.

And while you’re giving their health routine a spring clean, it’s worth checking their parasite protection too. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗺, and the right protection can vary depending on your pet and lifestyle.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱? 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺.
We’re happy to review what you’re currently using and advise on the most appropriate parasite protection for your pet.

🌼 Spring is much more enjoyable without the itch!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗧𝗣𝗟𝗢?

There was plenty of team support for this patient as they prepared to head into surgery for a TPLO, one of the most common orthopaedic procedures performed in dogs with a damaged cruciate ligament.

The cruciate ligament is an important ligament inside the knee that helps keep the joint stable. When it becomes damaged or ruptures, the knee can become painful and unstable, often causing limping, difficulty getting up or reluctance to exercise.

TPLO stands for Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy. Rather than repairing the damaged ligament itself, the procedure changes the angle at the top of the tibia (shin bone) to alter the mechanics of the knee. This helps stabilise the joint when the dog is walking and reduces the need for the damaged ligament to do its job.

It might sound like a big procedure, but TPLO surgery can help dogs return to comfortable, active lives following their recovery and rehabilitation.

And, of course, no trip to theatre is complete without a little extra love from the Subiaco Vet team first.

Wishing our gorgeous patient a smooth recovery and plenty of comfortable walks ahead!

There are only a few days left to book your pet’s FREE dental check.

Dental disease can be painful, but pets are often very good at hiding discomfort. They may continue eating, playing and behaving normally even when there is significant disease in their mouth.

That’s why it’s worth having their teeth checked before there are obvious signs something is wrong.

Until 31 August, Subiaco Vet is offering:

🐾 FREE Dental Health Checks
🐾 10% OFF Dental Procedures

If it’s been a while since your pet’s teeth were checked, now is the perfect time.

Don’t leave dental pain too long. Book before Dental Month ends.

We’re supporting National Desexing Month this July 🐶🐱

Desexing is an important part of responsible pet ownership, helping to prevent unwanted litters while also supporting your pet’s long-term health and wellbeing.

At Subiaco Vet, we already offer desexing at a heavily discounted rate year-round. But to support National Desexing Month, we’re offering an additional 10% off eligible desexing surgery during July.

Desexing may help with:

• Preventing unwanted pregnancies and litters
• Reducing the risk of certain reproductive health issues
• Supporting more settled behaviour in some pets

Ready to book?

New clients, or pets who have not visited one of our vets in the past 3 months, will need to book a paid consult first. This helps our vet check your pet, talk you through the procedure and provide an accurate estimate.

Book online here: https://www.subiacovet.com.au/make-a-booking.aspx

If your pet has been seen by one of our vets within the past 3 months, please call the clinic on 9381 2291 to book their desexing surgery.

You may have seen recent news about a parvovirus outbreak affecting dogs.

Canine parvovirus, often called parvo, is a serious and highly contagious virus that can make dogs very unwell, especially puppies and dogs who are unvaccinated or overdue. In some cases, parvo can be life-threatening, so prevention and early veterinary care are very important.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴’𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.

A few simple prevention tips:
• Keep unvaccinated puppies away from public dog areas until your vet advises it is safe
• Avoid contact with unwell dogs
• Clean up after your dog and practise good hygiene
• Be cautious in high dog-traffic areas such as parks, footpaths and shared spaces
• Check your dog’s vaccination status if you are unsure

Signs of parvo can include:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea, sometimes with blood
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Dehydration

If your dog is showing any of these signs, please contact us as soon as possible.

If you are unsure whether your dog’s vaccinations are current, please call the clinic on 9381 2291 and our team can check your pet’s vaccination history for you.

If your dog is due or overdue for a booster, book now to help keep them protected: https://www.subiacovet.com.au/make-a-booking.aspx

With recent reports of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in wild birds in Western Australia, we wanted to share some simple advice for our Subiaco Vet community.

The risk to the general public remains low, but sick or dead wild birds should not be handled.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱:

• Do not touch or move it
• Keep dogs, cats and other pets away from the area
• Call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

If you are unable to reach the hotline and are unsure what to do next, please call Subiaco Vet on 9381 2291, and our team can help guide you.

Please share this with local pet owners so our community knows what to do without panic or confusion. Thank you for taking precautions and helping keep our pets and community safe.
