🚨 MYSTERY OF THE DAY: WHY DOES MY MAREMMA BARK? 🚨
You bought a Maremma.
You gave them a lovely home.
You fed them.
You loved them.
You provided a comfy bed.
And yet…
THEY ARE STILL BARKING. 😂
We hate to be the ones to tell you this…
…but your Maremma may have opinions. 🫣
Maremmas were bred to notice things, think for themselves and alert you to things they believe may be important.
A possum?
🚨 POSSUM.
A strange car?
🚨 CAR.
Someone walking three streets away?
🚨 VERY SUSPICIOUS.
A plastic bag moving in the breeze?
🚨 WE NEED TO DISCUSS THIS IMMEDIATELY.
A leaf falling off a tree at 2am?
🚨 EVERYONE UP. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
😂
Of course, there are things you can do to help manage barking — appropriate exercise, enrichment, a predictable routine, reducing unnecessary triggers and making sure their environment suits them can all help.
But the goal isn't usually to turn a Maremma into a silent dog.
Because a silent Maremma is a little bit like a Labrador that doesn't want food.
Something isn't quite right. 😂
If you're considering adopting a Maremma, understanding the barking is a VERY important part of understanding the breed.
They're not being naughty.
They're doing the job their brains were designed to do — even when the “job” appears to be reporting suspicious activity involving a bin lid. 🐶😂
Maremma ownership comes with fluff, loyalty, independence… and a soundtrack.
And honestly?
We wouldn't have them any other way. ❤️
