Backyard scent work. You can see Milo following the odour up the cracks as its settling between the concrete until he hits the target half way up the wall.

Sniff session last night. 3 targets over a large wet football field with a pretty strong directional wind. Odour left to settle for a few minutes while we changed leashes and stuffed balls in pockets. Little man wasted no time finding all 3 and ignoring the birds and happy pups around us during his search 👏 loving the improved focus we are seeing.

Safety Warning Newcaste Locals:
Locals, particularly those in Waratah and surrounds please keep an eye out for Cane Toads in your area. Cane toads secrete a substance that is toxic to humans and pets, capable of killing dogs if ingested. Keep an eye our for kids and pets playing outside especially if you see or hear them near "frogs". Cane toads can look similar to some of our native species so feel free to reach out for ID help, and where possible upload any sightings to FeralScan and research what to do should you find a suspected Cane Toad in your area.
If you suspect a child or animal has been exposed to Cane Toad toxins seek medical/vet assistance immediately. Common symptoms in dog can include increased salivation/drooling, disorientation, spasms, pawing at the mouth and vomiting. In preparing for field work this year we've got a list of skills to proof. Emergency recall, Emergency drop and wildlife avoidance/neutrality are our priorities. We put these to the test this weekend to find some areas we can polish but I must say this moment topped the cake. We met some very inquisitive horses on this property and Milo did WONDERFULLY with them including his "leave it" cue to move on.
We'll continue to proof these skills on leash ready for field this year 🐾

An ESS will always find water, either to look at with their handler or... to sneak into and hope you dont get busted. Spoiler alert: he got busted 🤣. Lucky for Milo we were there for a swim anyway 😉
