It’s been a tough few days. Being out across the electorate today, it’s clear the events of this week have shaken a lot of people in our community.

Let me say this clearly: I’m okay.

What happened involving Helen has affected us all. My thoughts are with her and everyone impacted.

Today I’ve been at my mobile office, chatting with locals and speaking with community groups. I’ll keep turning up, listening and being available to the people of the Hunter.

I won’t let fear or intimidation stop me doing my job. These people won’t win.

Tonight, ABC’s Australian Story will air a program about the tragic Greta bus crash.

For many across the Hunter, particularly those directly impacted, this will bring back some pretty tough memories of that heartbreaking night.

It’s a night our community will never forget.

I know there are people still carrying the grief and trauma of what happened, and watching tonight’s program might bring some of those feelings back to the surface.

So please, look after yourselves and each other.

If you’re finding it tough, have a chat with someone you trust. Check in on your mates, your family and your neighbours, particularly those who were directly affected.

Sitting in the sunshine with my Mon and listening to “The Gambler”

I remember the last time I danced to that was at Bulahdelah with Nansy, Ree, Aunty Deb’s.. All of us on the dance floor and enjoying being together.

They are all gone now.. But a new memory with my darling Mon.

Gosh how life changes.
I hope they are proud of me.

Disgusting racist stickers have been put up around Cessnock today.

The cowards spreading this rubbish don’t represent our community.

Let me be absolutely clear.

Racism isn’t welcome in Cessnock. It isn’t welcome in the Hunter. And it won’t go unchallenged.

We’re better and stronger than the hate and division these people are trying to spread.

If you’ve seen one, let me know where it was located so it can be reported and removed.

🔘 MULTIPLE PEOPLE INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE

A large emergency services response is underway after multiple people were struck by a vehicle near Wallsend this morning.

About 9.30am today (Saturday 3 October 2026), emergency services were called to Newcastle Link Road at the Transfield Drive roundabout following reports a vehicle had struck multiple people in a crowd.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District are on scene, assisted by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Several people have been injured and are currently receiving treatment at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

Newcastle Link Road has been closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for some time while inquiries continue.

The incident has impacted the planned route of the Newcastle Knights grand final procession.

The procession was diverted via an alternate route, and the team bus has now departed Newcastle.

Police acknowledge many loyal supporters may have missed the opportunity to see the team and show their support.

Members of the public are asked to safely disperse from the area and keep roadways clear to assist emergency services and traffic management efforts.

Police thank the community for their patience, cooperation and assistance.
