I have never seen a mushroom such a vibrant purple in colour - don’t worry its not on the dinner menu

A little bit of research and this mushroom appears to be Cortinarius archeri, commonly known as the Purple Emperor.It is native to Australia and typically found growing in eucalyptus woodlands.The species is distinguished by its slimy, bright purple cap and distinctive brown spores on the gills.While visually striking, Cortinarius archeri is considered poisonous and should not be eaten.

What a fantastic day out at the Bathurst Australian Highland Cattle National Show for 2026! 🐂🍂

We spent the day admiring some beautiful Highland cattle, catching up with fellow breeders and enthusiasts, browsing the many trade stalls, and enjoying the delicious food carts on offer. The perfect winter weather made it even more enjoyable, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine.

A huge congratulations to all the exhibitors who presented their cattle so proudly and helped make the event such a success. It was wonderful to see so much passion for this amazing breed and to be part of such a welcoming community.

And of course, the star of the show had to be the adorable little Highland calf who had the entire crowd saying “Awww!” at the same time. Absolute cuteness overload and proof that no one can resist a fluffy Highland baby! 🥰🐮

Already looking forward to next year!
